Getting Spam Email After Buying Dot Info Domain

Postby Chameli » 02 Apr 2017, 22:24

Recently, I bought two dot info domains against my FC through Forum Coin. After I bought these domains I realized that my inbox is getting cluttered with spam emails. Some of these emails are invitation for website design and others are about registering on certain website or search engines. Is this just a coincidence or you are also experiencing this.

I have owned a .info domain name for 10 years and get NO SPAM at all there.

When you buy a domain (or get a domain transferred to you), you have to provide contact details of the registrant. This information is then publicly available online so anyone can see your details (Name, address, email etc) so this is probably how they got your email to spam. It is advisable to get "whois protection" which hides this information but it usually costs extra in addition to the domain.

It is probably bots that automatically harvest the emails of new domain registrations and then spam them with related wed design services etc hoping that new website owners are interested.

I've also owned .info domains and have not experienced any spam from them. That's not to say that someone didn't look up the whois details of the domains and find your email through those.

Just to clarify the spam you are receiving definitely has nothing to do with ForumCoin. We don't use your email or even request it from you in connection with the .info domain offer.

I checked upwork recently and one seller pposted a job requirement.

"Collect the emails of the people who have registered the domains in last 48 hours. Then use this template and send the emails from this address. 5$ per hour for this task. If we find you good you will be hired for long term".

So you can guess this type of work is just part of the people who are sending spam business mails and the fishing for leads. Ignore it or mark as spam then they wil be forced to change.

you're bound to get spam.mails especially if you had bought anything from a public domain that needed you to drop to drop your email. So it could be from that purchase that they harvested your email.

It is not a coincidence, even i do get such spam mails when i register new domains sometimes. The people who send such mails do hope that someone might pick an interest in their offers. It is a kind of marketing to them.

If you want to see how open your domain information is, just check 'whois' and you will see how it is easy to get your email. That is the reason why registrars offer domain privacy, some do this for free while others you pay.

You may want to get domain privacy(free or paid, depending on registra) if you don't want such next time.

This is a type of email marketing, it has nothing to do with any site, but just bots who receive your information that you purchased a domain; so they are trying to use these ads. It is up to you to accept or ignore.

Well, I am pretty sure the spam emails I received after buying info domains from FC has noting do do with this Forum. My question was whether certain domains are more vulnerable to spam emails. Thanks for clarifying this. In my experience, the spam emails are pretty common for the first few months and then they eventually disappears.

I think the best way is to add privacy, when privacy is added, your information would be secured. Privacy is free or paid, depending on registra.

All domains are vulnerable which is why privacy is a good idea. The alternative is to give an email address that isn't used for anything else upon registration or that forwards. Even if you have privacy people guess email addresses such as info@ etc so emails can slip through still.

Yes,that can be a good idea.Given an email address, you rarely use. So,the spam emails won't be bothering you.
