Postby Fergal » 30 Sep 2017, 16:31

Have you ever used Reddit to promote a website?

Was it successful for you?

How did you go about it?

I tried it once and while some subreddits allow links I found that users are more active in the US time zones. This means your posts can easily get lost or not seen.

I do feel for this kind of forum it's fine as beer money topics seem to be active all of the time. The trick is to reply and to stay neutral as people read quickly and don't think much when they reply.

It's funny you should ask that because I have and have recently had a horrible experience on there. But ok, that's a story for another day LOL

Seeing as I blog about Botswana, I decided to search for Botswana/Africa subreddits and found I really liked this one. I got in touch with the owner and explained what I do, that I wanted to post more than just a couple of posts a week. He was very pleasant and surprisingly accommodating, as long as I didn't spam his subreddit.

It's going well so far, bar the one recent wobble. However, in terms of traffic, I wouldn't say it's worked wonders for my blog. We get a few Reddit readers on the blog but the number doesn't run into the hundreds let alone thousands. But I guess it works differently for everyone.

I don't know if I'd do better if I had my own subreddit. I've been toying with the idea for a while now.

I'd say go for it. You'd be doing the same thing on yours as your doing on his, and you'd get the views and potentially more people visiting your site.

Why all subreddits are not allowing links? Any reason for that?

If users are more active in the US time zones, how our posts will get lost or not seen? In fact, it will be the other way round.

Thanks everyone for helpful replies, I haven't promoted on Reddit before, but we may look at ways of promoting ForumCoin there in the future. Your shared experiences and tips are most helpful, please keep them coming.

Beermoney has its own subreddit, don't see why ForumCoin shouldn't either. I think ForumCoin is better in terms of an actual market for tasks, etc.

Just promoted the not-for-profit facebook page I manage on the local town subreddit because of this post. Not sure if that's going to be particularly successful as there are only 800 subs.
I've promoted stuff before and well-written provocative or newsworthy articles and good images work best.

I tried to promote my youtube channel on reddit months ago and I was not successful. I am sure that I am on proper sub reddit but it seems that no one discovers my posts. There are lot of happy people from my channel because they are gaining money from the sites that i share to them. In reddit I don't know maybe they think I am a scam that Usertesting is a scam and I will earn from inviting them.

Thanks for that, thisnthat! I agree with you because as it stands, I'm the only one who posts religiously. I also avail myself to the members if they have any questions on Botswana. It's just a matter of drumming up the courage to do it **sigh**

You don't need the courage to do it... you ARE doing it... just on someone else's page. So, aren't you glad you have such a pushy friend to push you to do your own?

Reddit is the only sharing media which doesn't work for me. I have tried different subreddit, promoted, voted and did everything as suggested but still nothing worked for me. I know Reddit is one of the fastest result bringing sites but I am sure I am missing something.
