Postby loudawg » 25 Apr 2015, 14:04

If money was no object would you rather pay for your forum software or use one of the free open source alternative.

Hey !

I would use a free open source one ! Why ? Because I could, without have to be scared, make all the change I want in the code on the forum software and maybe even sell the modifications I made.

Its open source, so legal to modify as you want.

I don't really understand the idea between "paid or free" if "money is no object" lol.

It mean if you were really rich and you don't have to ask yourself if the price worth the try

I would always go for paid softwares. For the reasons like better theme, quick support and the number of add-ons would be more when compared to Free forums.

You have good arguments, but there can be mich better themes on a free version ! There is tons of free similar things which would do the same thing as if it was costly.

I agree and you right, but what about support. For every forum or a website support has to be so quick that it should get resolved ASAP. You cannot have your forum or website down for days. I am saying if the site has kind of technical difficulty which most of us cant resolve or you install a plugin and some thing goes wrong while installation. With forums the more downtime you give to your members, you may loose them.

You are completly right ! I approuve what you are saying. Support is very important and I know you can lose customers and/or members when its too long.

This is kind of the age old question, but there are obvious benefits to paid software despite not being open sourced, and that is more support and generally more compatibility and faster updates, etc. I would go for paid software most likely because if this.

I guess if money was no object, I may as well give paid a try, since I've always used free software. I've had a good experience with free, but who knows, paid might be much better.

I am not used to using forum softwares yet so I will stick with free ones for the time being. Mainly because I can learn as much as possible before I decide on getting a paid forum software..

I agree with you, who knows the paid ones are too complicated or too simple  . But most of the free ones are very basic, I don't know if you can put your own code inside but if so it will be fantastic.
