I will use this analogy comparison with 2 Youtube channels.

Rebecca Brand and Sros

At first I thought Sros is more viral than Rebecca Brand because she is younger and prettier but it is not the case. Sros always manage to get to trending over RB.

This is a 5 year old video of Rebecca Brand and it only have 25 thousand views.



Meanwhile Sros' video that is just uploaded few months ago have millions of views.



Rebecca's recipe videos are shorter while Sros are longer. Youtube favors Sros more because they can put more ads on her channel. Youtube will actually help your channel to get more viral if they are longer.

Sros makes her video longer by adding the washing of ingredients as part of her videos. Rebecca actually have more entertaining videos but Sros is more attractive to advertisers because her videos are longer.

True Youtube like more longer videos, but you can't compare those two videos only with number of views. Who knows how much Sros posted it online on social networks and more views.

You should compare two videos, posted on same date, even better within hour, and than compare it.

May be you are right! I am not interested in long videos unless those are concerned with my interest or with my subject! I think most of the people are like me who wouldn't want to waste their time by watching videos!

Which is the reason why they appear more on recommended videos. Youtube are sabotaging short videos now in favor of long videos.

Yes longer videos give more chance to upload more ads but I feel that viewers are more interested in shorter videos. Longer videos sometimes get too boring.

Longer videos also Give better option to add the advertisement part which will increase the revenue income and this is why users are posting longer videos like of 30 mins and longer.

Oh, such a sad state. Youtube wants to deplete the most valuable resource of the user, time. They want their users to stay longer in their website. But some Youtubers favour lengthier video because they can discuss more stuffs relevant to their main content and to make their point more plausible to their viewers.

Am not sure that's really the case because I would prefer a short in depth tutorials on you tube than long ones so for me short videos are better unless movies.
