Staff Training

Postby dan213 » 09 Sep 2013, 22:31

What training process does your staff go through? Are there manuals that you have them read or maybe something more extensive?

I have manuals present that they have to read. On some forums, I had a small 5 question test that would be asked to be sure that they actually did read.

While I don't have training for the staff members on my forum, I do look for people with experience. In some rare cases, I will hire them if they are very active even without experience. :)

I don't think that staff really need training when I ran forums I would just have some rules for moderators, this way they all do the same thing for bans/moving threads etc. Keeps it uniform.

I have some informational threads for new moderators to look over and encourage them to ask as many questions as they want to ask... That's about it.

I have a couple of threads in the staff section of BAF, that outlines how Moderators can help and what is expected of them on the forum. After that I try to support them in the staff forums and via PM. But I also ask staff for ideas and suggestions, because they will often think of things and suggest improvements that I hadn't thought of.

That sounds very professional Dan, what topics do those manuals cover?

I have never thought about this, it is something to consider though. Normally I don't have anything in place other than a few previous stafff positions.

We have various staff guidelines and regulations for each time and some general rules. Other than that we have a Skype staff chat which can be used to let staff know of any rules and they can ask any questions they wish. I tend to only take on experienced people for moderator and above but for package and review team I'd teach them a little bit and if they learn quickly then they can stay but I can't be allowing low quality services.

On a hobby forum I think I'd take someone with a low experience / skill and train them. Thats the whole fun of it and as long as they have a good attitude and are willing to learn it should work.

In. buisiness I would go for staff with more experience and skill, purely because its a buisiness, but I still may take on a less skilled / experienced person, it all depends on their attitude.

My only forum I had, I had a few members of staff which I built up a Q&A for them to have a look through and if they had any more questions I'd answer them and post them to the Q&A.

It is required on specific duties, like for a packager or a reviewer, you need to let them know how it works, and let them know of the template and procedure etc.

Staff training is very essential because it makes the staff(s) know the job better, safety tips training is also very important for staff. Manual can be given to make the training more effective and easier.
