Buying Domains Terrifying?

Postby Masterminor » 26 May 2015, 17:21

I have thought for years about buying a domain name, but I have heard way too many of my mom's horror stories about people buying them, not being prepared for the annual cost, and canceling the domain or trying to, failing, thinking they succeeded and not being prepared for when the bank calls and tells them their in debt. I have made some money online that amounts to around $40 after 1.5 months from various gpt sites that I planned to buy a domain from. But now I sort of lack the confidence to do it. I have no idea how it works and don't know which registrars to trust. I did look at GoDaddy but it advertises $0.99 domains, and all I saw were close to $10. Not to mention I don't know what to do with the domain once purchased and I heard elsewhere that if you purchase one and don't do whatever you have to do after correctly, it becomes a "nulled script" or something. I don't know what that is but I hear it's illegal.

I was thinking of just putting some of the money I made toward finding someone trustworthy here in the member ads and paying them in Amazon Credits to handle the purchase for me and teach me what I am suppose to do.

Is this a ridiculous idea?

Domains are very cheap and only renewed once a year. Hosting is also a fixed cost. I assume your mom has never owned a computer or bough a domain before?

She's owned a computer, never bought a domain name, She has very little tech experience. She still uses Internet Explorer for internet browsing even after I told her about the security scandal. She's very very good at instilling fear and doubt inside me and my abilities.

Many people face problems with domain registration as some registrars exploit their customers . Find a good registrar who values their customers and you will not face many problems . The cost of a domain name depends on the tld which they want, some domain names are available for less than $3 for the first year. To get cheap domain names from Godaddy, you will need coupons.
Which country are you from?

Buying a domain name is simple and relatively cheap (about $10 a year), but if you don't know what you are going to do with the domain, then you are completely wasting your money, even if it is a small amount.

You need to decide what you want to do first, then buy an appropriate domain, not the other way around.

There a lots of ways to make money online, but most of them require a lot of work and really offer a fairly small reward. For example, if you want to earn money from third party ads (like Google AdSense) or from affiliate links, you need a LOT of traffic to your website to make it worth your while.

That means first of all you have to create a website that people want to visit, creating valuable content. Then, you have to find a way to drive traffic to your website, such as through search engines or paid advertisements.

Don't spend a dime on a domain until you have thought through the whole business plan.

well I do have some ideas of what I can do. The problem with Google Adsense is A: I'm not old enough to use it. and B: I do not, nor am I old enough to have a paypal.

No, its pretty easy and cheap to own a domain. You can check other domain provider if you want a cheaper product, if I remember correctly, the cheapest domain I've bought is around a dollar or so.

I'm 17. I tried that and she said no because she doesn't know how to do it, doesn't want to learn, and doesn't trust paypal. I can "ask my dad." but I haven't talked to him since I was 12. so... yeah...

You can use your forum coins to purchase a domain name, some members will be willing. If you want free or cheap domain names there are forums and websites available

I don't understand why you would be terrified to buy a domain name. I think maybe you've received some less than good information.

You can just buy a domain name here with forum coin, like Niche said. Here's the link: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=14 You might find other options in the member's services boards as well. I don't know.

I think it would be a good idea to use Forum Coin, if you're starting out, and due to the fact that you can't get a paypal yet.

Good luck.

Yes, its true that GoDaddy offer .com domains for just 99 cents, you just need to use coupon codes.
You can find working Godaddy coupons by searching on Google.

What are you talking about? :?
I didn't know that if I don't do anything with the domain it will become 'nulled script' or somethin' like that. I have about 12 domains and I just use one of them. I don't use the rest and I am sure, not using a domain is not illegal. It just depends upon me. I am owner and I do whatever I want.
But, be sure not to use premium scripts which are made available in the internet for free also known as nulled script since its illegal.

Also, you can use Raees service to buy .com domain for just 450 FC.

I never saw that one. I'll have to look into it thanks. Although first I might need to figure out what "hosting" is and what it's for and how I can obtain and use it. (I know I'm a grade A newbie when it comes to websites)

Wikipedia wrote:A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web.

You can either buy a hosting service or use free ones.
You can buy hosting services from GoDaddy, Hostgator .....
If you want to use a free hosting you can use ByetHost or 000Webhost, but, I would recommend buying a hosting service instead of using free. You cannot trust these free services.

Buying domain names is pretty simple and straightforward. If you buy a domain from Godaddy or Namecheap, or even from Cloudflare, you get it for use the way you want. I have seen people use scamming domain names but nothing happens to them. Domains are very cheap and easy to buy

Since there thousands of domain extensions to choose from and people prefer to choose their own extensions it is difficult to sell domains. However, dot com will always have value if you have a short domain that is keyword rich
