An articles section?

Postby Sam » 11 Sep 2013, 02:31

Do you think have an articles section on a forum is a good idea or not? I've written a few good articles on different topics and posting on forums doesn't seem to generate much interest...

I think Article section is good to go with. Like guidelines or steps for a particular stuffs or programming. I mean something like "How to" or "SEO Tips" are always useful. Well, we can always keep what people would search for and want to learn.

I would probably go down the route of adding a blog to the forum or maybe seperate pages. I don't think they would work well just posted into a forum.

I have an article section on PromoBB. When I'm bored and fancy making some SEO-friendly content I post in the articles section. It provides a knowledge base for users and helps increase SEO and post count. It's all round amazing. I noticed after a while it started to catch on with normal users posting their articles in it.

I think they typically get neglected because people more likely go to blogs to either post or read that information.

I think aslong as they are related to the general forum topic then it is a good thing but they must be well written and straight to the point. Some articles are thousands of words and just repeat the same things and point out the obvious.

It can work on some, mostly I'd say its a blog thing, very rarely they would stand out on a forum.

It will work if the articles are useful to the people...

I think people will only read articles in article section and may not reply if the information there is correct. They will reply only if the information is not correct or to thank if it's useful for them. Else, they might have found the similar article in another place.

It's good to have an Articles section, but focus more on your topics and posts.

An article section can be a good idea as long as readers know what the articles will be about. There used to be an article section in a proboards forum called "The Art Forums". There were several helpful tutorials on it. :)

I don't like an article section on a forum as I do not find them as giving the articles enough exposure. I would rather have an addon blog for the forum.

As mentioned above, I would also prefer a blog over a section on the forum.
