There are a lot of options for cheaper domains, you can even find a free domains. These people are trying free blogging platform because of lack of knowledge

The thing is, I would rather use a free subdomain like wordpress.com than one of those free domains. I hate free domains especially ones like .tk.

However, my lack of technical skill became a such an annoyance that I decided to close the site. I wish I had the time and the know how to get that site running for longer..

If you are ready, willing and determined, trust me you can do all at once. You are able to make the most off your blog if you are posting things which you like and love. I am of a view that blogging is passion to those who love it. May be you didn't love to blog and which is why you closed it.
