Why did you create your forum?

Postby Sam » 11 Sep 2013, 02:42

I think this may be an interesting question for you to answer: Why did you create your forum? (did you see an untapped niche, did you think you could do things better, just for fun, to profit - not a bad thing!-... :) )

Every forum I have ever created was just for fun. None of them are around anymore due to lack of funding unfortunately.

I was a member of a small number of webmaster and hosting forums. The support I received there was very helpful and I really enjoyed posting on those forums. One day I saw a web hosting forum for sale on one of those forums. Up to then I had never even considered the possibility of owning a forum. I really liked the domain name and actually purchased that forum.

Since then I've started a couple of my own forums in areas that were of interest to me and where I felt there was a potential niche.

With the announcement of a new gaming franchise MN9 and how much hype it was getting from not only me but other gamers I decided to jump the gun and make the first forum dedicated to the game that is currently in development. Plus I figure that a organized forum would be much easier to talk to other fans on the subject rather than having to scroll down on the comments section of the Kickstarter project. Plus it's all about fun as well. :)

It started as hobby and slowing started to become something more. I saw other forums that were doing well and I enjoyed being apart of the communities. It got to where I thought it would be fun to do my own forum and that's when it all started.

It started when I was a hardcore club penguin'er and was part of the biggest club penguin forum Club Penguin Planet. Me and someone who had become friends on the forum Oggy decided to make our own club penguin forum. It was kind of rubbish but from there we were partners in foruming for a long time making many forums and slowly improved then I lost contact with him and haven't been able to get in touch with him. :(

I started mine because a forum I was very active on was sold and the new owner was terrible. Me and a bunch of previous members decided to make a new one and talk there.

As a UNIX/Linux sysadmin, I came into forums from the engine room. I experimented with SMF, phpBB and a whole bunch of other Open Source packages on Linux before deciding to set up a forum. From a system point of view, phpBB seems to be the best forum application you can run on your server. Very robust and portable.

I created just for fun, and I use it only with my friends, it is a gaming forum, I'm now much more experienced in making forums so that's actually the only positive thing :D

I had some questions before when I was just starting in a certain field of interest and there is nothing I can find online that would provide me the answers or guide. I thought that is a gap that needs to be filled. I have made some plans and drafts but have not started yet. I had seen some people who started out of their own whim and excitement but were not able to sustain it I want to take it slowly
