Do not underestimate non English websites and blogs

Postby Netherrealmer » 30 Oct 2019, 17:39

Here is the thing, Though English language is the biggest market, It also have the biggest oversaturation and has the most competition. People who don't speak English are still millions and billions in numbers. All you needed to be profitable is to at least have 100 thousand to 1 million consistent traffic to get monetized.

Also the rules are more lax and less strict if you are non English. I know most people have international ambitions but a more grounded and realistic goal is to go for your country's own market or your culture's own language. You have more chances with the algorithm in the non English market.

Well, I see your point but if I were to write my blog in any other language than English (say in my native Setswana) my fellow countrymen would probably ditch it. Many people, especially the younger ones, struggle to read and write our language here and much prefer English. It's the sad truth.

It is not about underestimating or over estimating any language. But the reach is very narrow for non English / vernacular blogs. However, if the blog posts are very culture centric and don't appeal universally then it better to write in the vernacular.
Then again most young people in every country know English and prefer to read write and communicate in English.

I also forgot to mention that in my case, my native language Setswana is spoken by a very small handful of people, mainly in Botswana and South Africa. To write in Setswana would essentially exclude a huge number of our readers, most of whom interestingly come from India, China, the US, the UK and Europe. In this context, the appropriate language for us is English because all those people speak, read and write English.

The biggest problem would be targeting the right demographics for visits, even if you just wanted USA (for example) it is harder and more expensive to get targeted visitors.

Why try so hard? I am sure anyone who wants to read you blog and doesn't know English would use Google translate. That is what I do for crafting blogs, most of the things I am looking for are on Russian sites and I have Google translate my page for me.

You notice many websites have language selection before you can enter it. You don't need to have every single language in existence. Just high traffic languages.

Yes I ordered a course from one of the so called gurus once and his method of getting his video reviews listed on google was to post them on only about 5 non-English sites and this guy got a lot of views for his videos so yes I concur its an awesome way to work smart.

I would have to agree with you. The English genre is just over saturated as stated by you and the competition is so stiff, you just have to overwork to get noticed. Other languages will do better especially if one is really good in it.

This is one problem that non- English will faced. Limitations in traffic. Even for an Indian earning blog I came across because it wasn't written in English,I was immediately put off. I prefer the English version of all sites.
