Two day ago, my staff suggest me to add in a hack rom forum to my board. I am not sure if it will help my site or it will harm my site by having the name ''hack''. I checked wikipedia for more information about ROM hacking. It said..

The purpose of distributing a hack in patch form is to avoid the legal aspects of distributing entire ROM images; the patch records only what has changed in the ROM, hence distributing it does not distribute parts of the original game. A patch is also smaller than the full ROM image (an NES ROM can run anywhere from 8 KB to 2 MB; a Super NES ROM can run from 256 kB to 6 MB). The use of patches does not eliminate copyright issues because the patches may be considered derivative works;[citation needed] however, corporations generally ignore them as long as they are not distributed with the ROMs.[citation needed]

It wouldn't effect your site since you aren't distributing roms themselves. However depending on your hosting service your forum may be shut down. You should check out the terms of service with your hosting service just to be safe, but I don't see it as being harmful at all. I allow patches on my own personal forum and leave it up to my members to find ROMs elsewhere.

I am not sure about this as there are other sites using these terms called Hack which actually isn't. ROMs can be generally searched and downloaded freely. I believe the term "Hack" wouldn't have a serious issues unless it's really about hacking stuffs.

Your hosting provider may never be happy, I you try this they may charge you seriously... So, better you try after seeking advice from experienced people.
