Google is testing new stuff on search engine. This change is not just cosmetic like font change or more ads.

When we Google some keyword we got list of websites as result and their meta description.
Something like this. (Red circle shows metadata)

Now, if change become worldwid, we could get picture on mouse over title.
Something like this. It is same site but with metadata plus picture.

(I hope you will understand first two images. Meta description is on Croatian but I could not find better example.)

I am not a geek but I don't see where that's a good idea. I think the images take up too much space and will push other search results over to the next page. Whereas without the images the links might have appeared on the first page of results. Also, some people use images without getting proper permission. If those images show up in the search results that's not fair. Is Google going to make sure that the images they pull into the description were allowed? I'm sorry but I don't like the idea. I think it sucks!

Images will not be show at first. It will show on mouse over. So in moment when you want click on site, you will get gallery.

OK. But that still doesn't tell me how Google will know a person is using an image without permission.

This is not Google's problem in some way. If you find your image used without permission, you should complain message. Google already ban sites who copy text from other sites.

I agree with you about taking a lot of space when search results appear with images. However, I think for a content creator, this might be helpful because a good images also attract people to check content.
