Why should Google read our emails?

Postby bestwriter » 26 Aug 2021, 09:34

I have a gmail account and this morning I got a message asking me whether I would like to send a reminder to someone I had asked some questions.

That email is personal. I therefore do not understand what business it is of Google to poke their nose. Is there a way I can stop them from seeing my mail?

I don't know if this will help you but here's a link: Best alternatives to Gmail to protect your privacy. Some people switched from using Gmail to other eMail systems.

Thank you. No one else seems to be bothered as they even categorise my mails (lol)

This simply proves that Google's AI is reading through our e-mails. A blatant display of disrespect to our privacy.

(you misspelled nose with noise, BTW. see you in that platform heheh)

Thank you. I edited. I am at noise cash but have lost interest. One has to perpetually tip and receive tips. I am no good in that kind of approach. How are you doing there? I see PBF CEO has joined and so have many others from TSU

They use AI and algorithms to scan patterns from our mails, even though the privacy policies might state something else.
In defense, they would say that a "Machine" was reading the mails, not a human being!

When I have a bit of time I will follow up on this by going to their support.

My big sister once told me that we are always being spied on. Google did not exist then. But the government did. She told me governments always spy on their citizens. She said that Russia and USA both spy. The difference is that the Russians know they're being spied on and they've learned how to live with it. But Americans don't know it and think they're free!

I don't know if what she said is true. But ever since she said it, I've always assumed that "Somebody" was spying on me and violating my privacy. If you approach the violator about the matter, they'll either (1) deny it and say that you're paranoid OR (2) they'll admit it, say they won't do it again, and keep doing it anyway! It's the world we live in. :eh:

India is doing it but are not admitting it . There is a case going on against them where journalists and other politicians want to know if they have used the Pegasus software.

Oh! I think I have heard of that here in the USA also. I think they accused former POTUS Trump of using that software to spy on his political rivals. Isn't that silly?

I get if someone brings something to your attention and it's a possibly that there might be corruption or some sort of wrongdoing, then it should be investigated. But to just stick your nose in somebody business just because you are hoping you can "dig up dirt" ... not only is it a privacy violation but that's just plain stupid! What a waste of money, resources, and manpower!

Besides ... if you were a decent honorable person that showed respect for the humanity of others you wouldn't do that. If you were a decent honorable person you'd be too busy doing real work instead of sniffing and snooping!! :lolno:

I have never received a similar notification from Google regarding emails. Perhaps it is to do with some settings on your account, but I am not sure. If you do not like Gmail, you can try Proton mail.

I stopped using my Google account last yes. I'm not sure that my private information is really safe because I started getting a lot of suspicious spam massages and I did not like it all.

You don't make a payment to Google to use their Gmail service. A lot of the money Google make, from Gmail comes from advertising. They use the content of the emails you send and receive, to better target those ads to you. There is most probably no individual working in Google reading your emails to better understand your life, although perhaps that could happen. Your emails are read by Google software and they use what is learned, to improve their service and to increase their ad revenue.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt that there is a away to stop Google from reading your content, when you use their services. The most straight forward option might be to use a different email provider, eg one of the ones mentioned earlier who offer email privacy such as https://protonmail.com/

Different people have different views on the privacy of their data. Personally I use Gmail a lot and I accept the fact that Google have access to that content.

You must be familiar with the Face Book Cambridge Analytical data scandal What stops Google from doing it to? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook% ... ta_scandal

My gmail is tied up with a lot of my activity and hence I cannot change it now.

And that's the way it is for most of us. That's why we are like Mr. @Fergal and we just learn to live with it. When I first started using eMails, it was hotmail, AOL, then YAHOO, and then finally Gmail. Gmail was way better than the other 3, so after a while I used it for almost everything.

But here is what I did. I didn't want to mix apples and oranges. So I used my Hotmail for church and for school. Meaning I used it mainly for my private communications with kids' teachers and with church folks. As for Gmail, I used it for most of my work-at-home activities. That way I would not "feel like" Google was getting all in my business because a lot of my work-at-home activity was sort of public anyway!

I have been doing it this way for years. My Hotmail address is about 15+ years old. I measure that timeline by how old my kids are now. :)

Does it mean only Gmail reads our mails and not the others?
