Sign up form or pop up add

Postby thisnthat » 10 Jun 2015, 18:55

Do you get people to join your site or your mailing list by using a form or a pop up?

I hear that pop ups work well though, which I don't understand, because I always hear that people hate them. I hate them as well, which is why I didn't use one. It does seem like they work though, especially the ones that don't pop until you're about to leave the site or the ones that offer a special if you sign up. I have been sucked in by a good offer on the rare occasion.

Some are just so annoying though, especially the ones that pop every few minutes or on every page you open. It's too much, in my opinion. If I closed it once, leave me alone. Don't keep bugging me with it.

The mailing list popup form was one of the best signup methods I have ever used on one of my blogs. The amount of email subscribers went right through the roof! The most important time tho is when should it pop up?

Really? Well, thanks for letting me know. I find it crazy. I mean people built pop up blockers to get away from the things, yet they work so well.

Yeah, that's a good point. When it pops is important. I think my biggest concern would be making it not be annoying, like I described above.

Don ´t focus on pop-ups on webs like gaming portals etc. Because lot of people, that are gamers are using add-ons to block them.

They often use it to avoid wasting time on ads that can disturb them. :P

As a normal user I understand that, but as an owner of a website I hate it.

Yeah, but that's kind of my point. If the majority of people hate the things and use blockers then it's not the best choice to use a pop up. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Some say it works well for them, others say don't bother with it. I guess it depends on the type of site or content that you have, at least to some degree.
