Something is catfishy

Postby Netherrealmer » 29 Oct 2021, 00:13

I have my own forums, Its not a Paying forum, Its a videogame forum and its slowly growing. A spammer posted a spam on my forum and look at the funny contradiction.
Image

She said she is only 18 years old, Barely legal and just turned into an adult.... Now read the age on her profile. Some people lack critical thinking so they will fall for these password stealing catfishes using images of beautiful women to scam. This phising spammer registered with "her" real age and it displays publicly on my website.

And then again he probably didn't even register with his real age. How did I know this is the work of a man? But you're right, as obvious as this wannabe scammer is people will buy it just the same. It's not just critical thinking that is lacking. By the way, your forum is one of many that image (and general description) was used as a user profile.

Majority of the catfishes are men so I assume that this person is a man. Also no woman talks like that. I am a Psychologist so I can sense catfishes.

What do these spammers get by posting such messages? I think most people already know these are bonus messages.

I'm not sure what catfishes like this want to achieve with their activities, but the scam runs deep. Romance scams are a whole thing of its own on platforms like Telegram and Whatsapp.

Many people are so lonely they lost their logical thinking. These catfishes can steal their accounts and worst their bank accounts.

Romance scams are targeting the elderly especially. I've seen so many cases of older folks being taken advantage of and bamboozled this way. That's why the younger, more aware family members should watch over them regularly. Too often I hear how they leave out of their homes to send off money to their unknown 'lovers' who know too well the desperation for attention.

Such scammers look for the vulnerable group people who may not understand much about the internet and sites. I often wonder what do they really gain in all this?

if they succeed stealing an account, they can use that account for spamming. Especially if that account have a Youtube channel with high following. They even gain more if they can steal a bank account which why I prefer to register via facebook instead of email.

Is it easier for them to get your info if you register using email address?

Yes because emails are connected to more sensitive accounts like bank accounts. Also it gives them access to your social media pages.

You are probably right, people who are in a vulnerable position must be a goldmine for these people. It's sad, really.

Some of them get money out of it. They managed to get men to fall for it and then feed them stories about needing this or that. And the men being caring give them what they ask for. Others just troll and laugh at the people who actually believe in the nonsense. Some people confess to doing this and some who have been burned by it have warned others about it. Even mature (experienced) folks have fallen victim to such scams.
