Here are two ways to improve SEO

Interlinking

You need to link your posts. Strike a balance when interlinking your posts. Just make a note to avoid applying too many links in your article as to not distract readers from the original article.

Secondary keywords

Once you have completed your list of major keywords, you can very well search for similar words and commonly used words. All of these words are called secondary keywords, and will be able to both touch a wider range of searches and bring targeted traffic to your site.

Possible mispellings can also be used as a tag!! There are many people who misspells a name or a brand multiple times, so they search it with a wrong spelling.

I agree especially that part of misspelling it is a very common mistake, so for me i would rather use keywords for faster and better searching.

Interlinking always helps but yes, if done in a rational and not excessive manner.
As for the other aspects- primary or secondary keywords, I try to have a good number but not very high.

Some YouTube videos have 40 to 50 keywords in their description, but I wonder if that helps or hinders actually?

I once watched a video that explains these things. You also need to have some level of HTML knowledge. You need to check that your tags are carrying those information you want on your titles, heading and descriptions. It would help to check the HTML of websites topping the search engines.

It is absolutely not necessary to know HTML to do SEO on your site. If you are using content management system, most of the will have addons or plugins for doing onpage SEO.

Find popular hashtags that you can associate with the content you created. Twitter is a great [promotional tool but you have to make interesting tweets to get follows first. After that promotion is a bliss.

When I launched my website, I built facebook page and twitter account for my site. I did manage to get followers on my facebook page by asking my facebook friends to follow the page and through advertising, however, I could not figure out how to build followers on twitter.
