New Owners

How do you feel when a forum is taken over by new owners?

Do you think communities suffer because of ownership changes? Do they get better?

What have you seen happen to a forum after a new owner takes ove

It depends.

:geek: I know that's not 'the answer you're looking for.' So maybe you could give us an example. Like 'Elon Musk buying Twitter' (I know Twitter's not quite 'a forum' so much as 'a public news-feed (on which various communities share their news-summaries), but ...)

I guess that is to say 'it depends on HOW they change the forum'---what rules they implement or approve-of.

Any specific conditions?

I have not been on any forums where ownership changed. I use Twitter but the change of ownership has not affected me.

Yeah, I did a lot of myLot (I'm still spelling it 'myLot' like a native myLotter  ); but it seemed like their most-popular topics were too often 'going to the store today' or 'saying hi to my grand-niece today' or something

I have not experienced anything of that sort. I am not so regular to Twitter, but a ownership change there has not effected me in any way. As long as the owner keeps the rules and regulations user friendly like the earlier owner, it should not be of any concern.

I have used a couple of Forums that changed ownership, but the fact that they changed didn't influence my judgement as much as the end result of the different style of management (if that makes sense). Some I stayed with and most I left, dependant on how they ran after all was said and done.

I know what you mean. And the thing is those members make money. But I could not bring up topics like that because ... my life is boring and dull and I didn't want to bore anybody else.

That's why I'm staying away (I left for a slightly-different reason, I think ... now, it's mostly because this forum is 'more my style').

Maybe that's why an Owner Change would be good or bad for its members---if the new owner's style matches/doesn't-match the style of the members.

The word "Style" (or Styled, Styling, Styles, Hairstyle, Freestyle, Lifestyle, Stylish, Stylist, Stylists, Stylistic, Stylize) comes from a wordroot that means "Stake, Instrument for- or Manner of-Writing, Mode of Expression" (possibly the same wordroot as "Stick").

I think it depends on the type of the new owners. Some seems to be doing great more than the former owners. This is evident in the referral index forum.

I think you would do well there if you have time. The biggest problem I am facing is making 1,000 posts to reach the higher payment level (almost there).

Promotion forums and Admin forums can usually do well with new owners but close-knit general discussion type communities usually don't survive an owner change. I can think of one forum off the top of my head that had decent activity and then it was sold and rapidly declined into a ghost town.

I have seen Forum Coin go through spells of Ghost Town existance, when all the posts seem to be made just for the incentive and real discussion can't be found for a while, but it slowly comes back.

I think people will continue to use the site as long as the site rules reward in the same way.
