Difference Between Free Forum Software and Paid Forum Software

Postby Mika » 26 Feb 2023, 13:37

Do you really have to use paid forum software to create a forum? I am asking this question because I see a lot of people starting a forum by using premium forum software when there are already a lot of Open Source Forum software.

I don't think it is a requirement, ForumCoin runs on the free phpBB forum software, other successful forums run on MyBB and Simple Machines forum software, which are also free.

The most important factor in the success of a community, is not the forum software it uses, but the value the forum provides to its members and visitors.

I think forumcoin has seen its success despite for it running a free version of phpBB. It depends on the value the forum site brings to the community not the software of the forum site.

That's what I believe. bitcointalk.org, one of the biggest forums with 3.5 billion registered users, is built on SMF. However, I want to know if there are any vulnerabilities associated with using free forum scripts.
