Have you tried owning a forum site

Postby Treborika » 03 May 2023, 15:29

I have seen that it is possible to own a forum site at absolutely free of charge across the web.
Do you consider owning one?

@Treborika can you please tell us a little of your own experience of this, or alternatively give a little info on your intentions / reason for your question?

It is true that there are ways to create free forum by using free forum software. Yesterday, I created a forum from my WordPress website and I will start posting there today.

I have intentions of owning a forum provided I can come across someone who could help me establish one with just $20.

Are you aware of sites such as https://www.proboards.com/ and https://www.forumotion.com/ ? If you join one of those sites, or a similar site, it is reasonably straightforward to create your own forum and start running it.

On this sites, do you have full access to cpanel? Also, can you edit forum script code or it is just user side?

Thanks for sharing! I am definitely going to try them out but I would like to ask if it's possible to monetize the forum.

Of course it is. This forum is montized and we get paid from it to. It just must be high quality content which will be atractive to advertisers. At first you will not earn much until you get visits.

I have asked this question because I have considered owning one but I would like your views and opinions about that. I expect you could share your experiences with the same for those that you own free forum sites.

Good question, I'm not certain as I don't use those services. However, I suspect that you probably don't get that type of access. They provide a forum hosting service, in that you get to use their system to create and use your own forum software installation. It's different to a free hosting service, where you get a free hosting account with a control panel, that allows you do anything you want on the hosting - once it meets their TOS.

I have created a forum on forumotion but the problem is that I was told that it's going to be difficult to get it monetised and it's better to go for paid version.

I would advise that you go through the normal channel by buying a domain name and hosting it because it will be better

I once had a forum, however, I had to give up because I failed to attract members and traffic.

I think you can start to advertise your forum on different platforms in order to gain members.
