Have you ever switched host of an active site?

Postby kat82 » 28 Oct 2023, 09:31

If yes, tell me how was your experience as in avoiding downtimes and etc. This is something I just did and the site was fully moved minus any downtime.

Usually when you switch hosting, the host that you are moving to will transfer your site to their servers and set-up your new hosting plan. If they are a reliable company and know what they are doing, your website should get moved, without any downtime for your users and visitors. You will also need to update the nameservers on your domain, to ensure everything goes smoothly, again the host you are moving to should be able to provide you with details on exactly what you need to do and when you need to do it.

My way! I get new host, create staging site, move content while leaving the old site intact. Move all files and demo my new site. If everything if set right from permalinks, I switch. Good thing I usually use cloudflare DNS and don't have to worry.

I have not yet had the experience of moving a site from one web hosting service provider to the next.

However, I am aware that prohoster.info intervenes to ensure that such switchover is seamless.
Prohoster.info helps site owners with transferring and setting up their sites to their hosting platform for free.
