Blogspot Blogging Tip: Watch Out for The Unseen Enemy

Postby cmoneyspinner » 03 Nov 2023, 02:06

This is a follow up to my article titled "July 2020 ~ Created My 9th Blogspot Blog" (viewtopic.php?f=67&t=28393). I did not want this blogging tip to get buried so I started new discussion.

This is a very recent experience.

I have been using Blogspot for years. One of my blogs have posts that date back to 2014.

For one of my blogs a person kept leaving Comments. They were not adding value to the post so I deleted them. I can't recall but I thought I had marked them as SPAM.

Whether or not I marked them as SPAM is inconsequential because this is what happened.

This person would visit my blog, go the same exact post and leave the same exact comment. And I would delete the comment, The person would rinse and repeat! Making me annoyed and also making me have to delete the comment AGAIN!

I went to their Blogger profile and this person is like a ghost!
I was going to see if I could Block them but I couldn't figure out how. (???)

One day I get an eMail from the Google Blogger Team telling me my blog violates their SPAM Policy and that it has been removed. It says that if I think this is a mistake, ask for a Review.

TAKE NOTE: This is a blog that is at least 5+ years old AND it was approved for Google Ad Sense.

So I clicked the button and requested a Review.

Within a day or two, they reinstated my blog and everything is back to normal.

BUT THIS PISSES ME OFF!
It looked like the person was intentionally spamming my blog with their comments in order to TRIGGER a review by the Google Blogger Team.

***
So that I don't have this problem again, I no longer allow Comments on my blogs. It's not like there were a lot of people leaving comments anyway!

My blogs have been approved for Google Ad Sense and the Comments are really NOT adding value. Most of the time I have to review comments and delete them. SO WHY BE BOTHERED? Just turn off the comments.

I don't know who this person or why they decided to pick on me!! But I mean ... suppose the Google Blogger Team had not restored my blog. That's 5+ years of hard work down the drain because of a malicious spammer.

That's my story. I'm telling you so that you don't go through this experience.

Thanks for sharing that with us cmoneyspinner, glad to hear that you got your blog back again. How is the blog going for you, is it earning good revenue from Adsense?

Have you ever considered moving it from BlogSpot, so you are not relying on someone else's approval in order to keep it published?

It is earning Ad Sense but very slowly. The slow earning started after they invented the Ad Blockers.

I have used WordPress and Tumblr. WordPress is not very liberal about using affiliate links and if I use the free blog I can not use Ad Sense.

With my free Tumblr, Google was willing approve it for Ad Sense. However, Tumblr won't allow me to place the code. Tumblr is now owned by WordPress.

Since Blogspot is free and is owned by Google, I use it.

The only other blogging platform I am using is Quora. They have an Ad Sense revenue-share program. Since I just started with that project I am not earning much. (I need to gain more followers for my Space. They don't call it a blog. They call it a Space.)

Live and Learn.

You are lucky. What I know is that haters can even report your blog for spam and Google's automated system will delete it. That is why upon review, they reinstated it. But, relying on a 3rd party for such is very dangerous. I use free blogs for testing purposes not real content.

I have been using 3rd party platforms for almost 15 years. I use Blogspot because it is owned by Google and my blogs were approved for Ad Sense. My very first blog - many many moon ago - was reported for spamming and it was deleted. I accepted the blame myself because I was a newbie blogger. Although I can not be sure if it was reported as an act of malice by someone. Nevertheless, It was the specific URL that could no longer be used. So I created brand new blogs using different URLs. I was not completely banned from the platform. So I held my head up and kept moving forward.

This experience also lets me know that the Blogspot Team was at least willing to hear my side of the story. They get two thumbs up.

I don't use blogger, or any free hosted blogging platforms., I blog on self hosted website and I have fill control over my site. One of the major issue with using free platforms is you do not control your content.

That's the way to go if you can afford it. It was my original plan to move from a free blogging platform once my blogs got traffic, etc. Unfortunately, things have happened to me over the years and a lot of my income-earning projects (not just blogging) fell by the wayside. So I never started generating consistent income I could rely on to pay bills. Getting scammed also didn't help. Anyway! When you get knocked down, you get back up nd keep pressing forward,

Generating income online is very easy, however, I have come to understand that if you want to work online you need your own website. You might not be able to make a lot of money but you will have something that you can call your own. During my active participation on Trendri, I seem to have written more than 200,000 words for just about $150. The forum stopped paying. Only if I had published on my blog, my blog would have more content and could have pulled more views.

The best thing that has happened to me in the wonderful world of freelance writing is I got a gig paying me to write Kdrama reviews.

The other cool thing that happened recently was Medium contacted me that my earnings had been miscalculated. The next month I received almost $30. I hope next month my earnings will be better.

I thought it is impossible to make money with a free blogspot spot @cmoneyspinner. I gave up on a lot of my blogs I had there for this reason. I've always wanted to just write without being concerned about hosting or domain names.

It's not impossible. It just takes FOREVER!
Since I'm at home all day with nothing else to do, I keep on blogging. :D

How much do you earn on average monthly? Most people believe anyone earning less than $1,000 per annum from Blogging is wasting their time, but I would love to have even $50 per month or less

Engagements also improve SEO. Why don't you just allow them and keep moderating and deleting useless comments.

I have been at this for several years. Sometimes you need to know when to throw in the towel. I've thrown in the towel and no longer hope for intelligent comments on my blogs. You can still earn with Ad Sense if nobody ever comments.

That's true. That means you can't run a paid to post forum. Might drive you nuts.

One has to face such challenges on these platforms.
Each platform has its pros and cons.
I used to be active on BlogSpot, then WordPress but now I am no longer active on these?
I might be back on WordPress again after a gap to promote some of our YT videos and some other content.
The issue is more involvement in Offline work and time that I sometimes spend on Learning new things.

You are even lucky that they did not come to post pornographic contents on your site that would have affected your AdSense.

I really did not want to do it but I was pushed. I have to say though that ever since I stopped allowing Comments, I have not had any problems with my blogs.

You would see some people make comments, and you would wonder if they really had to make those comments. Saying thrash all through in the name of making comments.
