How to Get Your Website to Show up on the Search Engines

Postby Yusra » 04 Dec 2023, 19:49

You invested significant time building a business website but now wondering why you don’t appear prominently in Google and other search engines for your keywords? Improving visibility requires executing key website optimization fundamentals - both on-page activities directly on your site as well as off-page efforts to make search bots notice you faster.

The priority checklist:

Complete Google Search Console Registration

Google Search Console provides invaluable insights into how Google views and indexes your site. Registering your website hooks into data on discovered pages, crawling stats, keyword impressions, backlinks and more. This free must-have analytics tool is critical for visibility.

Enhance Site Architecture

Ease of navigation correlates with how search bots evaluate page quality. Ensure a clean internal link structure, properly organized hierarchy of pages, use of breadcrumb lists for clarity, and consideration for site search. The semantic structure should make logical sense to first-time human visitors quickly.

Optimize Page Speed

Slow loading sites negatively impact search rankings and visitor experience. Test your homepage speed at Pingdom, GTMetrix or WebPageTest. Anything over 3 seconds needs work. Optimize images, enable compression, fix faulty code, minimize redirects, upgrade hosting - do what’s needed for the fastest load time possible.

Implement Metadata

Proper title tags, meta descriptions and schema markup provide additional context to search engines about your pages beyond just the words themselves to improve relevance. Metadata strategically targets what you want pages to rank for.

Create Compelling Content

The best visibility driver remains high-quality, useful, regularly updated website content optimized for what you want to rank for, while written for human readers. Share perspectives only your expertise can provide - don’t keyword stuff. Competitor analysis helps find related terms and gaps to target.

Diligently applying these areas plants the seeds for an expanding search presence over time. Be patient - increasing authority requires consistency. But the traction gains momentum if you stick to the game plan.

It is easier to get tips but really difficult to do it. When you are running a website, you will find that despite doing proper SEO, your website does not even appear on the top 5 pages of search results

If you look at the list of users currently active on the front page of ForumCoin, you will almost always see several "bots" actively crawling the site. The main purpose of these bots is to review the design, compliance and content included on the site to determine the placement in search engine results.

One of the details made clear is that content that provides valuable new and unique educational content on the topics is placed at a higher position, and content full of useless and junk content falls to the bottom of the list. That quality review specifically includes proper spelling and grammar throughout the site. It all does make a difference in the search engine results. If or when participants on your site don't care, it directly affects your placement in search engine results. The quality and resulting search engine placement of your content also directly affects potential advertiser revenue.

Another detail they look for is compliance with laws and regulations that may vary from country to country. Violating some of those laws may lead to a complete block of your website display in those countries, or even fines and penalties if the compliance laws affect your specific country.

For example, if you want your website to come up in US states and territories, you are required to comply with the extensive ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990) laws about equal access to the site that accommodates visual, hearing and physically impaired visitors to your site. The compliance instructions are extensive and requires someone who can actually understand them to be able to meet those regulations.

Although thousands of websites do not comply until confronted, all it takes is someone with a disability to file a complaint to the ADA for them to take action. Here is a US federal website to explain that one:

For most of Europe, your website must comply with the Cookie Notice laws or face significant fines

It is likely that other compliance regulations apply in other regions of the globe. Be sure to research those issues for your own region.

Overall, high quality, authoritative content and compliance issues directly affect your placement in search engine results. Proper keyword inclusion is only part of the story.

The way search engines work has been changing over and over. In the past, one would simply add keywords and have Google pick that page on top of the list. But now, things are quite different. You can use keywords and titles and google will ignore you or even take you down to the last page of search. On the other hand, one can simply write freely without even adding more keywords and will rank number one on search. True, I am no longer sure how one can rank. I am testing different options and free writing seems to be working better than that which is well optimized.

Engaging in forums allows you to include links back to your website in your forum signature or posts. These backlinks are very important for SEO as they signal to search engines that your website is reputable and trustworthy. The more high-quality backlinks you have from reputable sources like forums, the better your website's search visibility will be.

Plus, when you engage with other forum members and build relationships within the community, they may be more likely to share your content or link back to your website from different platforms. This can further boost your website's visibility and drive more traffic to your site.
