What sort of things would make you sell your forum?

I suppose if I had no more time to run it, and I mean REALLY no more time, then it'd probably be time to sell up.

I don't believe you truly care for a forum if you think of ways to sell it. I do agree in exceptional circumstances such as not being able to come online, or health issues etc that refrain you from running a forum that you may have to sell but for those who open a forum, gain a couple of thousand posts and sell it on, I don't have time for.

I think they would agree. Anyone would sell for the right price, that's just a rule of business.

I think it impractical. If I got a private message or an email from someone and they said they'd give me a lot of money (more than my forums worth) for my forum, I wouldn't sell it, just to get the money. That is you letting your community down if you do that.

I'm sorry if nobody agrees with me, but does anyone see my point of view on this?

I am likely to not sell my forum, unless someone pays me a ridiculous amount of money.

My limited time. I know that administrating a forum is not an easy job and you need to have much free time in order to work for your site. Also, you need to have a decent budget because you must have a professional theme and good posts, topics or articles.

If I was going in a separate direction and could no longer run the forum I may be inclined to sell it. Otherwise I may get an administrator to run the site while I'm away.

For websites, only reason I would sell off websites is if I came into money troubles. Which would now be happening :O Recently lost a lot of money and may end up selling a few of my websites. My forum however is not for sale and Don't think I would be able to sell it xD I don't like communities ending up in the wrong people.

I can see your point and I know that there are lots of other forum admins who feel the same way. Personally I don't really feel that way. If the forum is sold to someone who knows how to look after it, the members may actually benefit from the sale. Especially if the original owner feels that they would like to move on from the project.

On a slightly different note, I've seen forum admins who who closed their forum rather than sell it and personally I feel that lets the community down even more. When a forum is sold, the members can make up their own minds as to whether to stay around or not, obviously they don't have that choice when it's sold.

I wouldn't sell my site if I see no activity too. It's something I own and built. It would be like selling your dreams in virtual world.

I think that the only thing that makes people sell a forum is because of money take forumhour for instance it sold for close to 300 dollars a while back now i say this for me if someone offered me 300 dollars for a forum or site i would give it to them you know why? Because money talks.

Unfortunately there are very few forums on the web that are worth that kind of money, but I do hope you get an offer like that, good luck with it Is that a goal that you are working towards?
