Being online the bots doesn't mean that they are registered. Normally on the traffic, there are guests and registered members.

Forum software recognises these bots and shows them in the online list, but they don’t have actual user accounts like real members.

Exactly why I asked if they are registered because you said they are listed as registered members.

Yes bots can also be considered as registered users, though they don't have actually accounts like other human members do.

You think on these bots?

Those are search engine bots. They are registered so they can access parts where can only registered users have access. This way they have it to and rank those on search engines.
Did you ever find solution on search engine list and when you click on link it say only registered users can access it? This is example how search engine know what happend on closed part of forum.

This is interesting, thanks mrki444 and kat82 for bringing it to my attention. I wasn't sure of the exact details so had to look it up.

phpBB which is the forum software we use here on ForumCoin, maintains a list of known search engine bots and identifies search engine bot visitors to the forum. These are identified and displayed as bots, so it is clear what they are and that they are not human visitors. They are not actually registered on the forum, the way human members are. Hence, you can click on their "usernames" and view their profiles, because they are not actually members.
