.新加坡 domains?

Postby jacktheking » 06 Oct 2013, 03:26

I was searching for another meaning for .sg domain on Google and I saw lot of websites on the result list. I thought why not try Wikipedia. I entered it and it states,

.sg is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Singapore. It is..
In 2011, two new internationalized country code top-level domains were registered for Singapore, intended for domain names in the local languages. These domains will get domain names and working sites during 2011. These domains are .新加坡 and .சிங்கப்பூர்.

.新加坡 Domain? Hmm, have anyone seen any website with this domain?

Well chinese or japanese may have a lots of site with these domains, but as we can't even type it, its hard for anyone here to have visited a site with this kind of domain.

I think that there are some domains like this one, but it's very difficult for us to find them.

I never came across one of these before, but then again it could be that I live in the US. It's pretty interesting to see a new TLD. :P

I have came over such domains But I don't think these domains will be useful as most of the keyboards in the world have English letters.

Umm.. I have another question. Will domain such as .新加坡 and .சிங்கப்பூர் be useful for their own language search engine? Maybe .新加坡 will be useful for Baidu search engine?

Yes, search engines in these languages will index those type of domains. Can't say useful because you still would need a good content for it to get listed above even in those search engines.

I guess it's only natural for other countries to pitch in and use their own characters in domain names and URLs. :P The latin script is kinda boring, to be honest.

Anyone up for creating a sexier script? :D lol. That could be an interesting idea. Maybe it'll get to be "viral"?
