Blog contest

Postby MoneyBox » 15 Oct 2013, 21:25

Okay. So I have decided that after Christmas I will be running a contest on my blog where people can submit articles to that related topic and each article gets them one entry into getting a cash prize via Paypal (this seemed like the easiest option) basically, the contest would run for a month or two and the more articles they submitted (that got approved and posted) meant the more chance they had of winning.

The questions I have to ask you are:
- Do you think this idea will be effective and get me a lot of decent content?
- What should the cash prize be if I want a good amount of articles from each user and a big competition.
- Any other suggestions?

Basically I want to know, what price would give you enough effort to write multiple articles for The Online Money Box? I would be much appreciative of any comments about this idea. Thanks.

When running a raffle, you are encouraging users to submit multiple articles as the more they submit, the more chance of winning. This will affect quality. If you run a contest for the best and most informative article for example then the emphasis is not on the number of articles so alot more time will be spent on the content. You really need to decide if you want less quality articles or more lower quality articles.

I think if you want to concentrate on quality as well as volume of article, then you must have a good amount of money as prize like $500 or more to attract more quality submissions. You need to specify that only good quality and original articles will be considered as entry.

It wont be the case if he approves or rejects articles himself, people would only earn an entry if their article is approved, by this way, they are bound to write better quality articles.

This is actually a good idea. Blog contest is way to go. But yes, the prize money should be nice as people will write articles for you that are original.

$500 is stupid. It is normally $5 for a good quality 500 word article. I was setting an idea at 100 and then doing the system of the more articles the better chance of winning. Obviously they would all be read by me before them counting as a entry. I think the quality would be good and I should get some good articles?

Yes I think so too, you'll have good activity going if you can bring some writers to participate.

The contest prize should be something like 1st prize- 125$
second- 100$
3rd-75$
and 2 prizes for 20$
In this way you will get a good collection of articles..

I certainly like this idea, it's creative and original. I would say the cash prize would be an amount you're willing to spend. Writing articles are pretty tough for most of us and writing many of them to enter the contest is even harder. It would have to be a great prize to get people influenced into entering.

You can offer prize money to positions holders and give some vouchers or some type of stuffs which don't cost anything to you to others.

$500 is not stupid. It really depends on your audience. If you really want talented writers to pitch in and make quality posts, then $500 is a reasonable price tag. It depends on your requirements, niche, and audience. I've seen writing contests run into the thousands.

Edit:

In fact, most serious contests will run into the thousands. These contests usually look for professionals that work with their niche on a daily basis.

Yes, definitely this idea will work, but if you have a high PR blog, then allowing a simple url for their website is also a good idea to attract more submissions on your website as there are many people always looking to get some backlinks for their website and this will attract more to them than money.

So when the contest is to start I wanna join this contest..... Okay, the above ideas are good, but it would be best if you could add to list some people for permanently contributing to your website and paying them regularly. This would help you get a good article base regularly and building your website highly responsive to users.
