Python Web Development

Postby Sam » 09 Aug 2015, 22:23

Is anyone using Python for web development? I would like to as I am learning python in one of my Computer Science courses. It would save me having to relearn PHP (which I was never that skilled at anyway).

I understand that you have to use a framework for web development. What's everyone using and how's it different from normal python coding?

Anyone? I see that Webpy was quite popular and seems relatively straight forward. I agree with a comment I saw that we don't need another Ruby on Rails bulky web development framework (Django seems to be like this).

Python is relatively good for web development, although it's a language more suitable for bot and software programming.

Just to bump this up: I've actually been watching a video series on Django. It's pretty amazing for a few reasons:
- It separates the database backend out (i.e. You can define models - tables/ fields - which will work on a huge number of database types like MySql)/
- It's amazingly easy to create an admin area.
- Pretty URLs.
- The notion of Apps (which can be used in other projects).

I was going to use PHP (for my charity site) but I wasn't really "feeling" it. So we'll see. I've learned Python at Uni which is helpful as well.

I thinking Python is one of the easiest languages to learn and type. It is also very powerful. I did took some lessons at the Microsoft Virtual Academy. (Its free, you can check that out too.)
I'll check out Django as well.
