It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you have data that changes often (even daily) like in a blog, then WordPress is hard to beat. That's why it is so popular.
However, if you have static content that only changes occasionally, I prefer to hard code it and manage the content myself. By eliminating the need for a database, it runs faster and is harder for hackers to interfere with,
