Photoshop or Illustrator?

Postby shamzblueworld » 08 Nov 2013, 05:10

Which one do you use the most and prefer? Also if you have used them both, what are one's advantages over the other?

It'll be interesting to see if a vector designer posts his thoughts here.

Photoshop is definitely easy to use. Most designers prefer to use photoshop to cut-down on work-load. But Illustrator is useful for vector design. If you really need to use Illustrator, there isn't much an alternative. :P

I've only used illustrator once so I'm not really sure which is the best. I use photoshop all the time though for basic graphics editing and it does the job for me and is simple enough to use.

Well I think if they come up with vector addition in PS then there would be no need for any other software and it will be a complete giant of the industry.

No, they wont come with vector in PS because illustrator is also a adobe software and they will loose customer for it.

Yeah that makes sense too.
But it should be handy if a software is made that can do both type of graphics, maybe gimp can add this functionality.

As per my experience PhotoShop is the best software for image editing. The navigation in PhotoShop is easy to understand and come handy while working on the design.

Depends what you are using them for... My stuff is photo editing and whilst photoshop is good, lightroom is better.
Illustrator is outside my realm of knowledge.

Well Photoshop is more meant for image maniplulation but you could also do some drawing on it, while Illustrator is a vector based program allowing you to do vector drawings. Vector is mainly math based and will give you more freedom if you wanted to create something that will need to be various sizes. Since Vector shapes are all math based, you wont have no trouble with things being pixillated when enlarging the image.

Can you please tell us why, your answer isn't very helpful unless you explain the reasons for your preference?

I haven't used either one of them but I would prefer photoshop. I have seen what it can do and a lot of my friends actually use it. So my vote would be on Photoshop.
