Is a shoutbox bad for a forum?

Postby Bananaman » 05 Dec 2013, 03:05

Do you think a shout box is bad for a forum?. Would it take away possible posts, or would people say things in it that wouldn't of been posted anyway?.

I think there is no use of shout box on a forum, it is good for blog/website.

I think a shoutbox can be good or bad, depending on the community. I think it is silly the way some people automatically criticize forums with shoutboxes. For example, I know a few roleplay forums that rely on shoutboxes for off-topic discussions. They want to have all of the official roleplaying activities on the forum, so that is perfectly understandable.

I think its okay to have a shoutbox when the community is active and strong enough, but surely its not good when you are starting out.
