No guest acces

Postby Bananaman » 05 Dec 2013, 03:29

What do you think about forums that don't allow guests to access content?. I personally won't sign up on a site that does this.

If I think that the information that I am looking for lies in that forum I will sign up.

I can understand why some people think that it is beneficial but in my opinion it does cause alot more damage. Some people assume that by requiring people to register that they will get hundreds of members quickly and can then their forum will be active but it is not the case. Very few people will sign up and the few that do are unlikely to post or be active unless you are hiding a really active forum. People want to see what they are signing up to before signing up and giving their email & password to a site they can't see.

I always like to have a read through the forum before signing up and won't join a forum if I don't get a chance to have a read before signing up, as it could result in a waste of time.

Well I think it only suits to private communities, or maybe the underground types, for a general common niche, it has to allow guest access.

Normally though if it's a private community you would've been invited by a friend, so it's something different altogether.

No Guest Access will really loose your members most of them never join a forum which have no idea about its contents, even spammers can make a forum and give no access for guests to collect members email id and private informations.
