link analyctics

Postby Bananaman » 05 Dec 2013, 03:50

Is there a way to view how manypoeple click a link to my site, or should I just shorten it with po.st which offers analytics. (I already use it for twitter)

Or you could do what I have been doing recently and install a script like YOURLS. Then you can set up a new link for every site you promote on and it will show you stats such as what countries people are from, what time of day you get more traffic and the total of hits you get. As you host this script yourself, you do get more control than if you use a free URL shortener such as bit.ly and it is hosted on your domain so looks less dodgy. Many people avoid links masked by services like bit.ly and especial adf.ly as they don't really know what they go to or show you ads.

Pretty lightweight. It shouldn't make any noticeable different to your CPU usage of your site or get you in trouble with your host.

Yes, it is possible to calculate the clicks on a link by using a simple script, just Google it and you will get a lot of solutions.
