Can you make a private website?

Postby lightning18 » 17 Sep 2015, 09:13

I have noticed that some websites back in the old days are private. There were websites that requires you to enter a password. What do you think is the function of these websites? Do they still exist these days?

I have come across websites like these, and I am always suspicious of them for some reason. I always exit them as fast as possible, thinking that it is some sort of trick.

I imagine they're just for storing information or for sharing with only a select few people. If someone is trying to create a new product for example, they might want to keep it quiet until they are ready and only share info with their partners.

Most corporate websites have a part that is private. But in the olden days, they used to be private and only those authorized have the password. Particularly the banks, they are public sites now but there is an option to enter their internal network with the use of a password.

I haven't seen a paassword protected site but password protecting a directory is pretty easy. cPanel has the option enabled so it's like 2 clicks. It probably functioned as being an easier method than having a member system... It's the difference between giving out 1 secure access key to a building to all employees and each employee having a key code.

Since I did not see for sites of this kind rarely I think that the owners of these sites have information or share the ways in which groups of people or the specifics of the task to put a password to its site.

There are private sites with restricted access for administrators, however, but visitors, is not very convenient requiring passwords so they can navigate the site. Sites that require so easily lose visitors.

I seldom see websites that requires visitors to enter a password, I know these websites maintain maximum security and only members can access the site fully.

The fact that they are private means it's natural that you would not know about them.

Hehe oldbuddy, that's funny, but true :)

I too remember seeing them in the past. But it's been quite a while since I've come across one. Maybe that's why we don't see them, because they are meant too be private. But then why did I used to see some? Or has the technology become more sophisticated and more advanced?
