Scam Paypal Emails

Postby DreekLass » 20 Sep 2015, 07:10

I have not received many Paypal scam emails in my lifetime, but more and more frequently these days, they seem to be appearing in one of my email inboxes. Luckily, I used to spend a bit of time on hacking forums, so I know all of the phishing tricks and how to not become a victim of phishing links.

Do you receive Paypal scam emails? If so, how do you deal with them; do you simply delete them or report them?

What I receive now are spam emails from Lazada. I wonder why it is sending me emails like that when I did not use that email address in my purchase.

That sounds worrying, because you just know that some people will fall for these scams and will be victims of these unscrupulous people! Luckily for me, I've never received these types of emails. But yes, if I did, I'd just bin them and ensure to mark them as spam.

What does it say in your email? I am not sure if the ones I am receiving are spam. The most recent email I got concerns me being a freelancer and Paypal encourages me to sign up or take advantage of that offer. I am not interested so I ignored it would you think that is phishing?

The email says something like, your paypal account has been limited because someone from a different operating system and IP address has tried to access my account, and that to secure my account, I have to enter my details, which is of course a phishing link. I wasn't stupid enough to fall for it, and reported the emails straight away.

I get these all the time, I just report them all to paypal. if you are never sure if it is legit ask pay pal first. I am getting better at recognizing what is legit, and what is not.

I have seen some of these in my time, but I wasn't fooled by them, thankfully. I do appreciate the fact that you are warning people. It's always good to be aware. I hadn't realized this was occurring more frequently, so I'm glad for the warning.

I tend to get more bogus stuff that says it is from some bank.

When I checked the email headers, I saw immediately that the email address was not a legitimate Paypal email address. The actual email itself looked pretty professional though, and to someone who was not internet savvy, they would have fallen for the scam.

I remember I received one once and by that time I deleted it. I only report a scam email if I can't find anything about it on the web, if I find it then probably someone already reported it. Most of these emails are well known if you do a little research on phishing and Paypal.

Yes, but if you check the email that sent the email to you, and they are not the official paypal email, you know that it is a scam, and should report the email within your email account. Also, all of the scam emails that are well known are flagged and won't even reach your inbox. But if it is reaching your inbox, that means that it is a relatively newer one and needs to be reported by as many people as possible, to make sure that that gets flagged too.
