Giving up your site/forum

Postby CyberFreak » 23 Feb 2014, 19:12

If you were in a situation where you couldn't manage your sites any longer, would you just leave your sites online and let it die or would you sell/give away the site to keep the community going?

I don't think it would be fair for the rest of the members to just let the forum die. I think maybe admins should be hired or maybe volunteer admins could be found. Selling the site would seem like the best way to go.

If it is an alive community, then I'd promote some of the members to the staff and let them run it.

I would still continue on with it even if its difficult for me to manage it. I will probably take one day from everything to check up on things have a few staff members that are trustworthy manage it while I am away and get their views on what things to change or not to change in order to keep the forum/site running.

If I get a chance of selling, I will do. Alternatively, if there is someone who would take it up by paying for renewals etc, I would give it free provided one is going to transfer everything including domain and hosting to their account. If all above arent available., I leave it to die.

There are several times I have thought of giving up on some paid to post forums because they refuse to pay me for my job..

When I was no longer interested in running a site I had created, I sold it. Money was not great but I recovered my investment.

For me, I would just cash in and sell the site even if it is for a giveaway price than let the site just stay and go offline. I gained something at least.

I have one site and domain. It will be active for one more year but than I will try sell it for few bucks. I don't have time or will work on it. Domain is good and idea but from months after purchasing I lost motivation to work on it.

I think it would be best to sell it than just keeping quite. It would nor be fair for the members on the site.

The best option would be to sell it to someone who likes the niche so that your idea remains active for other people to use.

For me I would sell the site to someone that would keep the site going for the sake of the members and the community.

Everything will depend on situation, if needed, I will also think about giving the site free to deserving person.

Would you actually give your site for free when you have spent money, time and effort to build that site?
