Anti copying tool?

Postby lightning18 » 01 Oct 2015, 00:45

Do you know how websites have this tool where the viewers can't copy the text on their website? Is there such a thing when you are making a website?

I have gone to some websites where you cannot copy the images or texts. Upon right click of the mouse, a message comes up that says - sorry you cannot copy. I just don't remember which particular site that is.

There is definitely a tool for it, because I have been to many websites where I have not been able to copy the text. I have had to print screen in order to save the information on the page.

Anti-copying tool is good as it provides the first barrier of copyright protection for your content, I have came across a few blogs with this. But as there is a price to be paid for anything you wish for, it might be annoying for students as they are trying to complete their assignments and they saw useful and extremely long content and would like to take a few parts from it as information, and they cannot use the content ( unless they use anti-copying bypass extensions ). In some cases, they can even end up with a infected and unusable system due to searching for other websites that may have the information they are looking for. Instead, I think it is better to use a Creative Commons License and give permission for others to use it the material in exchange for the source to be clearly stated.

There are several javascript techniques to disable copy&paste but most of them work poorly or are easily avoided. For example, most rely on standard CtrlC/CtrlV. If your browser works with other language, like Portuguese, the key combination for Copy&Paste is a bit diffent.

That's a neat tool! This would be fantastic to have on writing sites, because how many times have we heard horror stories about people's content being stolen?! Sometimes these poor people are blissfully unaware, and some unscrupulous, shameless people are using their work to earn!

I would like this tool to be used on writing websites. So, nobody could copy our contents and then repose them as their own work.

the code only stops the ease of stealing if someone really wanted it bad they could snip, screencap or just write it down by hand.

I encountered a couple of websites that has that. It is quite annoying especially when it asks you to re-type your email address or something like that and you can't copy-paste.

An anti copying tool is a good idea. It is a good first step to prevent using material and claiming it as your own; but, like everything else there will be a way around it. Technology can be used for a good purpose but it is also used for a bad purpose.

If the site is in HTML the programmer can always use HTML-Protector which will keep your website protected from thieves. If you would like to see more information about this you can check the following link :

http://www.html-protector.com/encrypt/

If the site is not in HTML there are several techniques to prevent someone to steal content, unfortunately none of them is 100% effective. Most of the time programmers add a bit of code to the page using Javascript to disable Right-Click, this will prevent some users from copying your content but not all of them. If a user knows how to code he can always check the source code using the browser option "view source", consequently he can easily find a way to copy the website content. Further more this option of disabling the Rick-Click works in most browsers but not in all of them.

Another option is to Embed Content in Flash, this difficults the life of content thieves but gives you a poor ranking in search engines.

Adding to these measures one can always display a Copyright symbol in the website but I doubt it will be enough to keep thieves away.
