What do you think about paying staff?

I dont think paying for a staff is not a great Idea as the one who works for free are more interested in the work then money so they will be more dedicated.

What do you want to say, I do not understand? You mean to say that the one who works for free is more dedicated than paid staff, if this is the case, then I do not think that your concepts are clear.

I feel the same way as Raees. If someone is willing to help for free then to me it shows that they care about the forum. If someone is being paid then they MAY not be as interested in the actual site and the community.

I am all for rewarding staff where possible but not a big fan of offering guaranteed payments for doing a job such as $50 a month.

I have a forum at the moment that is going to be paying staff. I see no problem with it. People are trying to earn a living.

Do you feel though that the person you will be paying is going to be passionate about the forum as someone doing the job for free?

Definitely the person who is getting paid will be more sincere than the free staff, but you need to regulate as no one is 100% honest and getting an honest employee is also difficult for less price.

That would definitely be true in some situations. However, I'm not sure that it will always be true. Sometimes people who volunteer at a site for free, are much more dedicated than someone who is being paid. The person who does it for free, does it because they want to do it and value the site. The person who is paid is often there solely for the money.

Personally I think it depends on the type of forum or website in which you are running. If you are running a specific topic blog, I'd say pay your staff to write articles. It doesn't have to be too much or a lot, just a little bit to motivate them to keep writing. With forums, just think about your staff around the holidays that matter and do something nice that may even cost you some money.

Hi Friends,

This is new era every body wish to grow economically and technically. Show a person who works free, there isa site paying one cent per article/responses then the site is florishing like any thing. Before two years back the site has announced that they are not paying the members for their activities. Now the site not at all countable in the net world. No body is interested to join in the site and posting any thing in that site. There are lot of such sites vanished in the market like that without money no body wish to work take it for granted.

Was that site a forum? Would you mind sharing the site name with us?

Hi Fergal,

This site name mylot and another site mp5 this site is paid for two years after that the site is not worked and so many payments are still pending. Now the mylot site is working like skeleton, most of the members are left the site and only less people are still hanging with the site.

Thanks for that ksridharprasad, it's a pity those sites are not so busy any more, especially as they had so many members who have already contributed lots of content to the communities.

I will reward staff as much as I possibly can but for a forum where all they are doing is moderating or whatever, I think payment is not really needed and will draw in a lot of people not actually interested in the topic of the forum. I will pay people who write articles or do something more than just moderate in most cases though.

I agree with moneybox, paying for just being a moderator may be too much. But I disagree that staff who aren't paid will care more, it may actually be the opposite in most cases. They already like the site so they want to be on the staff, and if they are paid they will care more of their performances in the site. What do you think?

I find if you are hiring off site (when the forum/project is starting) and you offer pay, you get people not really interested in the topic but more so interested in earning a quick buck and then leaving eventually.

Hi Friend,

I have already informed this earlier, there is no person to help freely others, I have seen several people in several sites they start helping and stopped in middle. So it is better to hire people to work.

I disagree, the one who works for money is less dedicated in many cases....I think the one who is paid is more dedicated. Simple example you see, we work on this forum, we also earn forumcoins and use it for various purposes, are we all less dedicated to this forum?? No, we are very much dedicated to this forum's quality.

Out of friendship or liking to help us, some may work for free and they also show dedication in their work . But sometimes we dont get help free of cost, so we need to engage people by paying them for their work
