A Thanks Button

Postby Sam » 02 Sep 2013, 09:44

What do you think about thanks and like buttons? Do you think it stops pointless postings of "thanks"? :)

Yes I think they are great, it's nice to be able to "like" or "Thank" a forum post that you appreciate. This shows your appreciation, without the need for posting a short reply. It works very well for us on Business Advice Forum.

I agree with you Fergal. Unfortunately, the thanks system of Forumotion is not so good and it has many bugs.

I think forums should have a thanks/like system OR a reputation system. Having both at the same time seems redundant to me.

I agree with theezy to be honest. One or the other is good. I love how Xenforo handle the likes of posts.

I think thanks/like button is really useful and every forum should have it.

I am thinking of implementing it on my forum.

I have always been a fan of a "Thank" or "Like" button on forums, and I usually always have them on my forums.

"Thank" and "Like" button are always useful to the forums. It's works when you don't have to post "Thank you" as comment.

It's a nice little feature I guess as long as it's not abused. For a forum like this I believe a reputation system would be better than a like system because reputation points should earn you forum coins and reputation should be monitored to make sure they're getting it for the right reasons. These reasons include helpful ideas for the forum and high quality posts.

I think it's a good feature. It shows people that others found their post helpful and stops members having to post thank you posts.

I've never really liked the "like" button. Maybe that's because it is associated with Facebook a lot. However, I remember the arise of the "Thanks" button from vB. It was definitely a cool addition, and felt very new at the time lol..

So you think it shouldn't be used on forums because facebook has like button? Its a great tool for forums too.

I think he is saying that he doesn't like the "LIke" button because it reminds him of Facebook which he is no a fan of... That is how I read his post anyway

I am more a fan of reputation mods as you can still easily say thanks but also leave a more detailed message.

I think it's important for a forum, even a blog to have a "Thanks" or "Like" button to allow members/guests to like your content and show that they appreciate it without typing a short spam post.

You could use both systems together if reputation was solely for exchanges, and then the thanks system is if you like a post. That way the reputation system could be better used to see how reputable a person actually is.

Fowler got it right. :P That's what I meant. Honestly, I thought it wasn't meant to be a confusing post lol.

I like the reputation mods better too. I don't see the point of hitting "like", because that just turns into a number-war.
