Sustaining our Website/Blog

Postby laksh » 23 Oct 2015, 10:29

After a long thought and planning, I have finally purchased my own domain name and hosting plan for 1 year in order to get my own site going so that I can try and earn without depending on third party sites. I've set up my site using Wordpress.org and have publised 6 posts as of now. I want to take it slow testing the waters and submit for adsense after 6-7 months. However, as I am still new to this, I would like to know a few things.

1. I will be HAPPY to earn just the cost of my hosting plan from my site for maybe the first two years. It's more about making the site self-sustaining rather than making it a high income source.

2. Not desperate for Adsense until I can earn about $30 - $50 per year using other ad networks.

- It would be very helpful if you could suggest me how to do this. Please suggest some reliable and old ad networks that are not very stringent and pay decently, displaying good quality ads.

- Also, please let me know how I can get more exposure to my site other than social media shares, guest posts, keywords, etc.

And yes, I forgot to tell you that I have already started using AdHitz.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have made the first step and have a good attitude. You don't say what your blog is about, so suggesting how to monetize it is hard, but as I mentioned elsewhere I pay my fees just from recommending a website to join that pays me commissions from referral purchases. I don't do any hard selling, just have a banner on the sidebar.

Participating at other websites (like ForumCoin) is a good way to attract visitors and if you supply good content, they will come back and bring their friends. Since we are talking about ForumCoin, you should at least add a link to your profile so it shows the little Globe under your name and we can click to go there. You could also spend 100 FC to get a signature.

If you want to be more aggressive, let me know and I would be happy to share more with you.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

I'm glad to know you have started your own blogging site. If I know how to do it I would really want to try it also. I know a friend who is earning big with his website.

Congratulations for purchasing your domain, I hope it works well for you. So far I have tried RevenueHits, Chitika, and Infolinks. I haven't earned from any of these ad networks, though. I am still trying to get enough traffic to my site.

Thanks, oldbuddy! Actually, I couldn't decide on a single subject/niche for my blog (as I'm not an expert in anything) I will share my link with you via PM so that you can get an idea about the kind of posts I would be making. About your suggestion of having a signature here or link, I will do it as soon as I have at least 10 posts there :)

I didn't like infolinks due to their unnecessary popups and meaningless links. Chitika is surely in my list, but I want to have considerable number of posts before applying for Chitika account. I will try RevenueHits though :)

May I know what is your friend's site about?

Congrats on your new started blog. If you don't have many posts at the beginning, you won't make much money from any advertising network including Google Adsense but you should still integrate it if you have enough content on your blog about 10 to 20 blog posts.

But you can make money through affiliate or referral links. The ones I can recommend are the Amazon Affiliate program and Shareasale. At the beginning it's best to focus on affiliate programs where you get a commission for a lead, for example, if people just sign up for a newsletter or something else for free. You can find these programs on Shareasale. It's an affiliate network where you will find numbers of different merchants you can apply for. Just apply for the programs that are most relevant to your blog.

Once your blog is more established, you can also apply for sponsored posts or sell direct advertising on your blog.

If you need more help, you can also send me a PM.

Congratulations for the first step you took towards writing seriously. I'm sorry but I have no advice regarding how to earn except for Adsense. I also have a blog since 2006 and it is only Adsense that gives me revenue. But my blogs are on the free provider - Blogger.

Thanks a lot.. I had Shareasale in mind before I started the blog, but had forgotten about it.. Thanks for reminding..For Amazon, I am not being allowed.. I tried applying but in vain.. I will go with Shareasale after I have 15 articles on my blog :)

It's great that you have been blogging and earning for the past 9 years!! How much is the revenue on an average?
