How do you pick staff?

Postby Teg » 23 Aug 2014, 01:06

So, when you create a new forum you must pick staff to help with the forum. My process for picking staff usually starts off by asking people that I know on a personal level, or people that I have worked with in the past. If nobody bites, I usually move on to advertising for staff somewhere and hire based on experience and then I give a 14-30 day probationary period to that new staff member.

So, what is your process for hiring staff?

I usually set up a thorough application form which the applicant has to fill out. This will let me know if that member seems alright for the job. After, I like to ask them some more specific questions. When I believe they would make a good staff member, I usually test them out for a week first before fully announcing it.

My preference is to pick staff who are already active on the forum and who have contributed positively to the community. That way they have already demonstrated their commitment and dedication to the community and in my experience that's where the most successful staff come from.

Like Fergal said I pick staff who are already active members. I also prefer if they have been staff members of forums in the past or if they currently are, because I want people with experience. I don't think I've ever hired anyone without experience, so didn't need to do a trial. But if you need staff for a new forum a trial could definitely be the way to go.

You need to choose your staff very carefully... just by asking them to send information about them <!
