do you back up your content

Postby tomford » 28 Oct 2015, 13:46

I have several free blogs and one free webcomic, I had 2 but one was lost to me when the site went down with no warning. all the art I had done and all my stories were gone and I didn't have them saved elsewhere. do you back up your content on your blog like articles just in case the hosting site goes down?

I wouldn't need to backup my content.. Im using blogger so my content is pretty much safe since its such a big hosting company.. but when it comes to personal art, i do back up those on an external. Writing Content is something that can be re-written (unless it's a book) but art that you put multiple hours is something that can be lost for good.. back it up no matter what! a portfolio is the most important thing for an artist and if you lose that, you start from scratch!

No I am not using any back up content. MY work is also on blogger so there is no need to do that. But it is good to have a back up content in case of some problems, like the site goes down or something like that.

I don't do backup's too. Like the user above I am also using blogger, but I do worry about data loss, especially after the very minor data loss ( less than 0.1% according to some websites ) at Google Drive after a couple of consecutive lightning struck directly. However, depends on what you are writing, for example such as your daily life blog, you may not need to backup your content.

Everytime I do a new website I backup all the content. I know that many people don't like backups but if something wrong you are going to wish to have a backup. I remember I had a blog about the Portuguese night life and one day something went wrong with it, I could have lost hours of work if it wasn't for the backup. Saving your work is always important especially if we are talking about hours or years of content.

I do backup my blogs.

Anyone who thinks having them on Blogger is safe, I feel sorry for them when something happens. Blogger blogs get terminated all the time and people scream and cry because they didn't have any backups. I only use Blogger for linking purposes, not content I value.

yes, I always backup all my article contents before i pot them online. Usually in my external hard disk or Evernote. Furthermore, if you plan to repost the article, just in case your account has been closed in the other site, you can retrieve it easily.

Yes, I backup most of my stuff, as my sister purchased me a 238GB external hard drive for Christmas about two years ago. So I like to back most things up, including my blogs.

Backing up all of your work whether it is music, artwork, lyrics, and your written material is important. You cannot rely on a site to maintain a backup of your work. These days you can't trust a site to always be there for you. A site can go down at any moment without giving you sufficient time to react. You will be surprised what is in the terms of service that you agreed to. All things are possible to happen.

Experience is the best teacher so to speak. If you are a writer, what you are doing is your own intellectual properties and they are intended for several audiences.

Works in any form like short stories, essays, poems, among others are being preserved for they are the product of intelligence of a person who is gifted, talented. Once they are gone and they have not been archived, they are gone forever. Unless the author/writer could rewrite them all from his memory.

Therefore, this is a must and clear reminder. Always make a backup or a duplicate copies of all your works especially if you are man of letters, poet, authors, artists, etc.

Not only for keeping purposes, for saving and avoiding losing them, but for posterity, for the coming generations.

The solution to that is to post your future articles on you OWN site, then it's one click to backup and you can earn even more if you don't have to share your results with anyone else but you.

I agree, the terms and conditions clearly state that they held no responsibility in an event of data loss. But sometimes if things are going to happen, they will happen. For example, if you store something in 2 places, online and on your computer. Both could go down in the same day, unfortunately. But backup's are better than none.

I've never had a blog, but when I used to write articles for a few writing sites, I always made sure to save copies of all my work on a folder I created on my desktop. All those sites have since disappeared, leaving us in the lurch, but I still have all my work from back then. I'm so glad I kept it all. I know that some people weren't so lucky, and lost everything when these sites folded.

I backed up all my Bubblews posts and I'm really thankful I did. I'll be moving them to another platform soon and you bet, I'll keep backing up everything. I value my content and wouldn't want them to be lost forever if anything were to happen to the site I posted them on.

Always. If it is important i back it up. I had unpleasant experience when i lost a lot of data i saved for a log time. Since then i made a habit to back up important stuff.

What backup mean you saved all your blogs in the Microsoft word or you will need to use a software to do that? I do have copy on my Microsoft word to prove my writing just in case in the future there will have problems.

I agree, there may be cases in the future where people copy your content and claim its their original content. Your site might be taken down for that and you will have to prove it is your work. A backup surely do wonder's if this happens in the future.
