Writing for YOU?

Postby oldbuddy » 09 Nov 2015, 05:02

After reading through a few threads here, a question began to form in my mind that I just had to ask.

Do you feel that it's any more work to post to your OWN blog (you own the domain and have your own hosting) than it is to work for someone who owns a site, that benefits from your hard work through keeping a large share of the advertising revenue it generates from each and every publisher writing for them?

How big is the jump from a so called publisher to being an owner?

How large do you imagine the share these blogging websites generate for themselves could be?

Is it really that much harder to take the control and keep the profits yourself, or does the very thought of all the responsibility resting squarely on your shoulders scare you to death?

What do you think?

Just to stay on the safe side and not ruffle any feathers that are not already ruffled, I mean sites like Bubblews where our work generates a huge amount of traffic that attracts advertising they get paid for, then they pay the people who did the work just enough to make them think they have a grand deal.

If it was 8-10 years ago, when sites like hubpages and squidoo flourished, the answer could've been different. But I think it's hard even for revenue sharing websites to keep the revenue coming.. The internet is highly competitive and with Google dominating every aspect of it, it's really tough to keep going strong.
It depends on what kind of person you are - if you are highly knowledgeable or experienced in something that a lot of people are looking for in the internet, then probably being an owner of a website/blog will benefit you the most. If you are just a normal writer, then you most likely depend on revenue sharing sites.

Well, it is really risky to deviate from the blogging websites because just by simply having your own domain/blog does not guarantee you will earn a lot. A lot of people are into blogging these days to earn (either as their main source of income or passive income). So people like, I tend to earn more by writing using blogjob where I am guaranteed I earn points and cash out.

It takes a lot of time and efforts to establish your own site and make it a profit generating site but once you achieve it, it's all worth the time and efforts, and to be honest rewards in the long run are more than the efforts you have made but there are also some other challenges like hosting, making your site rank for the targeted keywords, maintenance, on page seo, off page seo and many other factors. Because of all the trouble associated with maintaining our own site, many of us prefer just keep it short and simple to "writing" and earn money for the same. Let the administrator mess up with all other things.

I am working on my own site but at the same time I'm also spending some time here and there on the internet to earn some pennies and dollars, to cover expenses of the "No earning yet" site.

I think like you do for the most part, oldbuddy. Keep in mind though that if the site you work for is popular and promoted well, you may get more exposure from such a site, which can lead to other revenue. It's especially good if you can also use a revenue sharing site to promote your own blog.

The only thing that is hard to learn is patience. Many people try starting their own website or blog, then when it's not producing the money they expect in a very short time they quit. You need to keep learning and trying new things every day until you reach your goal. I have been doing that for over 15 years and I'm still doing it today. I have referrals earning me money daily that are struggling themselves, but it's hard to convince them they are successful if they make anything at all, because it will grow if they are patient and keep trying.

Writing for a site relieves you of the responsibility on the earnings since you are probably paid on a fixed rate. With blogging, the earnings vary and not consistent. As per my experience, you need to be dynamic with your blog to make decent earnings.

I think we're missing a key point here. If we look at oldbuddy's blog/website we don't see an ongoing collection of posts about a single topic. What we see is a website that is used to inform people of potential ways that they can make money. But most people in this thread are looking at a blog as a string of posts about a single topic that can make money for the writer.

Also, I think that most people are assuming that traffic to the website is being generated seo traffic while oldbuddy's traffic methodology depends more on generating leads from forums and other one on one interactions.

So what we have here is the old parable about the blind men and the elephant.

I started blogging in 2011 for pleasure. With no intention to earn a penny is first motive on blogging for writing is my passion. I just wrote posts which my readers considered them quality. A matter of year I tried to join a contest by submitting my two blogs and eventually they got an award as best blog so far. By and by, my email was full of ads placement in my blog. I didn't have any idea on what to do. I just accommodated them, a mater of month I was requested to open a PayPal for a payment. That's how writing has made me.

My problem is consistency. I don't have the time to post regularly all the time, so that my blog would look active. Also, I don't like writing about one main topic, but I like writing about a variety of things as the mood strikes me. So article writing sites like Bubblews and Hubpages fit me better, because I don't have to write consistently, and I don't have to keep to one topic.

It takes a lot of time to gain audience on the own site or domain, and is it really not sure if someday that audience will be attracted. It needs qualitative posts and for the large interest of people, otherwise it's a lost time only. I prefer to write on the so-called "consecrated' writing sites instead of struggling with my own blogs.

I do not have a blog ... yet! I think if we have someone who writes for us is to miss the essence of the ideas that we want to share through the blog.

writing for a few sites are far better than owning a blog or site. You have to pay for your own domain name, the rents for maintenance and your earnings depends on adsense, amazon. More of a burden to me

A couple of points you may have overlooked. First there is nothing that says you can't do both and time is NEVER lost if you are learning something. The longer you do it, the less struggle is involved and I am talking about a few days (or maybe weeks if you learn slow) until you become comfortable and on your way to the eventual goal. Remember, if you never take that first step you are guaranteed you will never reap the benefits.

As I mentioned before, the domain name and rents for maintenance are $1.33 a month and affiliate programs like Amazon, etc. are only way to earn from your own blog.

Oh, you are talking about revenue sharing sites like Bubblews and some blogging sites. I think because of the trauma they brought to almost everyone, they are now included to the site that provides a lot of risk to join because everyone can start to work there but it doesn't mean they will receive a pay in return.
