Editorial Schedule

Postby thisnthat » 24 Nov 2015, 14:53

Do you have a set schedule for when to add specific content to your website? Say you plan to add some Christmas content. When would you start adding it: a month in advance, two? Do you determine things like this ahead of time or is it more of a random thing where you just upload content as it comes or whatever?

I haven't been as organized as I need to be, but I'm thinking that setting up such a schedule would be a good idea for my blog.

I try to do this when I can, but I try not to get too obsessed by it. There are times I find myself "wanting to write for an occasion" but can't find the inspiration to write. So it make things hard.

If you are the type who is strategic then most likely you would have thought about this in advance. On some occasions I must say that I had planned some of my posts and scheduled them accordingly on when they will get live or published. Most of the time though I just rely on my mood and instinct as to when I create a new content

I always think about this, but then, those holidays and things kind of sneak up on me before I'm really prepared. I just have too much going on. I need to pare down the number of obligations I have (the ones other people expect of me), so I can be better organized and free up more time. I want more time to spend on my blog and my writing. Right now though, it seems like every time I sit down to get some work done, someone "needs" something.

I know that feeling this past week and last week my mother asked if I would help her do Christmas cleaning and she would pay me. Of course I said yes since I really do need the cash. It has cut into my earning and ideas I am having but now that I am done doing that for her now I need to cleanup here and get the tree up. I would like to start posting to my blog lots again. I kind of went MIA.

You either are the "planning type" or the "spontaneous one". So you either start planning it at least 1-2 weeks before the event or do it spontaneously in the same day and upload it.

I used to follow a fixed schedule on my blog but since last few months, I am hardly posting there as I am more active on hubpages and blogjob which take up a lot of my time.

I just post when I find I have something I want to say. I don't want a job or a business, I just want the money, so I like to keep it fun and pushing myself to meet deadlines is not fun.

I can relate to that oldbuddy. There are times when I wanted to grab the opportunity (especially if my full-time job's schedule is not tight) but I am probably too tired from doing things, I don't get anything in my brain. And if I push myself too hard, writing becomes a bother (and I don't want that to happen).

AS a regular blogger, I usually make advanced write up of what is to be happening in the following month or so and then another news writeup during the event. That is if the event is important and I have to promote it. But if it is not I just post it at the time it is celebrated, or just a day after that event.

I plan ahead and have a tendency to be to early for events. However, I would not promote Christmas before the Thanksgiving Holiday had passed.

Yes, I will only add content three times a week because I don't have time to keep adding every day.

This is good practice. But if you're a regular blogger, or online writer, you should be flexible for anytime of the day a trendy topic or event may come up and you're apt to update your blog right away. I only sense this among the professional writers/bloggers or a regular media writers.
