What Advice to Give to a Newbie in Website Blogging

Postby Rebekah Isaac » 26 Nov 2015, 00:54

My daughter is enhusiastic. She's a skilled writer. She knows her craft. She's been writing in several writers' websites. But she realizeses she wants to build her own blog site with WordPress. And is doing great writing content for a month now.

What do you advice regarding monetizing her blog? What step-by-step ways she should improve, develop and add AdSence? Should she wait a year to build more content, and of course, confidence, before she applies for Google AdSence? Any technical advice is appreciated very much.

I would skip AdSense except as a last resort. They steal your traffic and pay you pennies, when you can do much better as an affiliate for other products and services. If you get enough traffic eventually, you can even sell advertising direct.

The above advice is good advice, but it depends upon why the person is blogging. if they are blogging just to make money then I would say to focus on social media as a way to getting traffic to the blog. Best sites are Reddit and Tumblr, as far as ease of getting people to your site. Of course it is an individual thing.

This is a good thread and I'll be watching it closely, if takes off and receives a lot of comments and suggestions. I'm new to blogging and any pointers would be handy. I'm also planning on visiting your blog @oldbuddy when I get the chance, as per gary's suggestion. I know absolutely nothing about the blogging world, and anything I can glean would hopefully come in handy somewhere down the line :)

Another tip that I learned was to post other blogs things on your blog, and they will sometimes post your links on their blogs, which may or may not have more followers.

Do favors for people you meet on various communities and forums, then when they work out you can talk about them to attract more followers.

I used Adsense for about 2 months. I got a lot of hits and a lot of traffic and good overall ratings. What I did not get was sales or sign ups.

I have learned the hard way that if you want to Succeed in net-working then show and teach someone else how to succeed. By teaching others you become a success.

Building a large down-line shows me that you know how to sell and say the right things to the right people. Teach them how to do what you are doing and they will build your down-line for you.

Just my 2 cents worth.

To expand upon this, it is a good idea to go to forums and communities which mirror the topic that your blog is primarily about, so that it will increase the chances of them visiting.

Always be original in the writing. So many website blogs have good, talented writing however the content is not original. What a newbie in the blogosphere should really focus on is to write original, captivating content. That is actually the most challenging part of running a blog, however with good content, you don't even need to market yourself as much, the posts will go viral and even for people who would not necessarily be interested in a particular topic. My advice would be to be as original as possible, look at what other blogs and forums are talking about- don't talk about that!

My main advice is to pick something that you are passionate about to write about, and make sure that there are lots of different angles to cover with it.

I've considered all the advice. Thank you. Perhaps, she can pursue her writing and keep writing as a true passion. About monetizing from marketing her content writing , it would be a slow one to generate income from it, unless she offers technical services, selling products at the same time copywriting products to make sales, as @oldfriend says. I've adviced my young blogger to study a Certificate course, be an expert, gain experience, freelance, and offer tutorials for a fee. ect. At the same time, get a 9-5 regular job as an employee/worker. So long as she does not depend on government handouts and free stuff.

I don't know how I feel about Adsense. It has been on my blog for a long time but I have never been able to cash out. This is my fault too of course but it has taken so long. If people find Adsense less attractive these days then is there a better ad network? I think I have heard of Chikita (spelling?) and Infolinks but don't use them. Great thread I will be keeping an eye on this one :).

Google Adsense has changed their system recently ... I think its easier to join now than before... but my suggestion is first of all to make great content and then join Adsense or second option is to join another network rather than Adsense and earn some money with them.... There are many good networks...
