GoDaddy Sale

Postby oldbuddy » 15 Dec 2015, 01:49

A quick tip to pass on, if you were not aware. I buy domain names often and have had an account with GoDaddy for over a decade. Usually when I see a sale like 99 cents for a ,com domain name, I find it's for the SECOND year, so it ends up being two years for almost the price of one.

Today I wanted to change the DNS server for a domain I owned that I was not using, so I could run some tests on it without fouling up any of my real domains. It takes time for the DNS to propagate, so when I went back to check on it I got an advertisement saying there was a sale on .com names for 99 cents (yeah, right), but after seeing a couple of times, I decided to see if it was true.

I had a .com I had in mind to buy, so I ordered it thinking when they git me with the 2 year price I would just drop it. Much to my surprise they did offer me 2 years for $9.95 (a very good deal) but this was just an experiment, so I changed the term back to one year. I did actually buy that domain name for 99 CENTS! (plus the normal 18 cents for ICANN), so I thought maybe someone here might be interested.

That is a good deal. I wonder if that 99 cent will work for renewals too, or just new domains....

Two years is the "default" setting for these kinds of Goddady offers but they've never done false advertising (at least not that I am aware of), you have always been able to get the domain for 99c, $1.49 or $2.99 + the ICANN fee for a 1 year registration when they run those promos.

I personally have all my domains with Namecheap, except 1 or 2.

It's just for new domains. I have a Namecheap account, but I have never seen a deal that good on there.

I saw that on their website and they don't allow to buy .com domain using PayPal. Only credit card.

I don't have a credit card so I can't buy it. I will buy .me domain name at namecheap.com. They are the best!

I don't have that problem, because I have a free PayPal debit card. Maybe they don't offer them in all countries.

We, in India, get Godaddy offers starting INR 99, which is about 1.50 USD.. 99 cents is really cheap :)
The domain I bought for my site along with 1 year hosting cost me about $28..

When I became serious in having a domain of my own, I came across several domain providers and website hosting in a two separate accounts. When GoDaddy is one of those domain sellers with a reasonable pay for webhosting, I got interested and bought a domain for lifestyle blog which is still working and has maintained that domain for 5 years now.

I find no problem with GoDaddy that is why I maintain it for my domain and site hosting.

I wish I would have taken advantage of this! I never use GoDaddy, but I would have for this deal. I usually use Namecheap for my domain registration needs. XD GoDaddy put me off with their support for SOPA.

If you keep an eye open, you may get another chance. I have used GoDaddy for over 15 years and see sales every so often.
