Do You Use The Cloud?

Postby oldfriend » 15 Dec 2015, 13:19

I recently went to Windows 8 and then upgraded to Windows 10.

The other day I was looking for a file and finally found it on my "One Drive" account in the cloud.

I personally don't like putting my files in the cloud because I have trouble finding them when I need them.

My computer hard drive is large enough for me to store what I need.

what are some advantages of using the Cloud and should I change my way of thinking?

I am so happy that I did not upgrade to Windows 8 or 10. My updates keep pressuring me to install Windows 10, and I keep turning the update off. Other than the issue you mentioned above, I don't trust these free cloud services.

I use Dropbox (in the cloud) to distribute PDF files to other people, so they don't need access to my computer or even a website I own.

As an individual user I do not have the need to use cloud. The space that is there in my hard disk is enough to take care of my necessities.

Yes I use the cloud. It is a good way to store and retrieve your information. Personal drives can crash. The cloud is the way of the future.

I often store old files on my OneDrive account to de-clutter. Can be very useful. I notice my hosting for thebookstore.co.nz went down & my laptop stopped working completely after a needed Windows reset. Luckily I had put all my files into OneDrive before attempting a Windows reset.

I wonder how many people realize that Gmail is in the Cloud?

I used and installed dropbox, thinking that it would allow me to free up some pace on my computer. It didn't. It just created a folder on my computer called dropbox which contained the files that I had moved, so it is still on my hard drive taking up space.

You can also use the Dropbox website to upload any file to a folder and then delete it off your computer if that's what you want.

Thanks for the tip :) But that is what I originally tried to do and they forced me to sign up and install with them, and then I tried to upload the files to dropbox, but it just went to the folder on my computer called dropbox, and is still taking up space.

What you need to use is Selective Sync as shown in this video:

I use OneDrive. There are really many advantages for me (specially), One of the biggest need of me for using cloud is i need access on many of my documents on different devices. Cloud gives a great benefit on that :)

I really only store music in the cloud as that allows me to use many devices to listen and also means I don't have to have loads of space on each device.

Oh ok, I hold my hands up and admit I wasn't aware hehe I just asked my husband and he already knew. You really do learn something new every day. I must use cloud and just not know that I do. I even have cloud storage on my Kindle, but as far as I know, i've never knowingly put stuff in there.

I also had absolutely no idea that gmail was in the cloud. But I cannot say that I am shocked. Technology is passing most of us by these days, that is how fast it moves.

Being in the Cloud simply means they have a private server with technicians at hand to make sure it runs smooth and none of the data is stored on your computer.

I should have known though, because getting my new smartphone, all of the things that I do on my laptop in google chrome, appears on my chrome browser on my smartphone. So I knew it was not stored on my computer per se
