Bots Reading Jpeg's

Postby oldfriend » 19 Dec 2015, 13:51

Why can't a Bot read a JPEG?

If Bots can read a sign up box, why can't they read a JPEG? On traffic exchanges you click on the icon that is the same as another icon in order to be credited for viewing that site.

Also, is it a matter of time before they will be able too?

Just curious and technical answer is appreciated.

Well, I have to rely on my limited knowledge as what I have noticed from programmer son who writes computer program, scripts, commands, etc. Since the question is why bots couldn't read jpeg while sign up box it can. Jpeg is an extension filename which is referred to an image or picture. While sign up box is designed or made or created through a series of commands, scripts related to programming and they could be read, interpreted and performed by a bot for that matter. That is my point of view as simple as that.

I don't understand why one would want a bot to be able to read a JPEG in the first place, but perhaps I am missing something?

One reason I could think of, is to decode a Captcha image and input it automatically.

Indeed.... there is a piece of software called Xrumer that is used to spam forums and so on. That can read images to automatically get around CAPTCHA's without human interaction - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mldtSaN5HIU
