Any views on Bitdefender free antivirus?

Postby sprite1950 » 23 Dec 2015, 14:18

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 which comes with a built in antivirus but felt that I would like to choose my own. Most of the antivirus programmes I have used in the past have slowed my pc down so I thought I would try Bitdefender free as it has good reviews. Does anyone have any experience of this and what do you think of it?

Never heard of it.

If you are looking for a free antivirus, I recommend Avast together with MalwareBytes. Norton isn't bad either, they make nice advertisement that I love to watch.

The only sure way I know to avoid slowing your computer down by running an anti-virus program, is use Linux so you don't need one.

I hate the constant popups and false virus alerts I get with Avast. I installed in when I upgraded to Windows 10 and found I couldn't shut down my computer. (Apparently Windows are aware of this bug). I uninstalled it which solved the problem but I'm still getting popups. I already use Malwarebytes which I find invaluable.

When I switched to Win 10 I just use Microsoft with no problems so far, but I don't have much on there so I can reinstall if it gets infected.

Whilst I have heard of it, I don't recall having heard anything particularly memorable about it online or through word of mouth. I would go with avast for a free antivirus.

You can disable some of the pop-ups, the only thing that matters is the scan for every download you do.

How do you disable them? I have uninstalled it and keep getting one which can be set to 10 mins, 30 mins or Never. I set it to Never and it still keeps appearing. I have installed Bitdefender and so far really like it. It has good reviews and seems light so doesn't slow my pc down. It will only scan when it is idle.

I would go into the program and go to the settings tab there/ The option should exist somewhere there.

It should be somewhere in the settings, they have an option just for pop-ups. Sorry but mines is in German. Making them all to 0 resolves your issue.

I have Bitdefender free working on my PC with Windows 10 and so far I am happy with it. The antivirus does not use much memory and behaves pretty well against most threats. Before I used to have Avira free antivirus but it was using too much memory and I looked for something lighter like Bitdefender. You can also disable notifications in Bitdefender under General Settings --> Advanced --> Configure Status Alerts

But I suggest you to go ahead with the inbuilt one, its enough. There is not need of any other antivirus, it justs slows down your PC.

Bitdefender has a good antivirus engine. It has good reviews from users as well as the major testers out there such as av comparatives,av test org and the others. Adaware uses the bitdefender engine.

I'm not really using antivirus programs, but I found this one one of the best, so I totally recommend it.

Yes after giving Bitdefender a try I am very happy with it. It's the Avast popups I'm having trouble with even though I uninstalled it but they seemed to have stopped now anyway. I'm a very happy bunny as I think I have found the perfect antivirus for me :)

You really think so? I have not had this play out as true in my experience. I have always needed Malwarebytes, or something else.

you actually dont need a anti virus, if you are little conscious about what you download from the net, virus is something we download, it never automatically comes to the computer like a real virus comes to the human body.

I like to download a lot of tv shows and movies, and sometimes the odd game, so I feel like it is crucial that I have a good anti virus

I watch hundreds of TV shows and Movies with no fear of virus or malware problems, but I use Linux instead of Windows.
