If you are looking for a free antivirus, I recommend Avast together with MalwareBytes. Norton isn't bad either, they make nice advertisement that I love to watch.

I hate the constant popups and false virus alerts I get with Avast. I installed in when I upgraded to Windows 10 and found I couldn't shut down my computer. (Apparently Windows are aware of this bug). I uninstalled it which solved the problem but I'm still getting popups. I already use Malwarebytes which I find invaluable.
Hugop wrote:You can disable some of the pop-ups, the only thing that matters is the scan for every download you do.

How do you disable them? I have uninstalled it and keep getting one which can be set to 10 mins, 30 mins or Never. I set it to Never and it still keeps appearing. I have installed Bitdefender and so far really like it. It has good reviews and seems light so doesn't slow my pc down. It will only scan when it is idle.

Before I used to have Avira free antivirus but it was using too much memory and I looked for something lighter like Bitdefender. You can also disable notifications in Bitdefender under General Settings --> Advanced --> Configure Status Alerts

You really think so? I have not had this play out as true in my experience. I have always needed Malwarebytes, or something else.

you actually dont need a anti virus, if you are little conscious about what you download from the net, virus is something we download, it never automatically comes to the computer like a real virus comes to the human body.
