My standby lunch

Postby bestwriter » 26 Apr 2026, 03:37

There is always cooked rice in the fridge To eat with rice specially if I am tied up elsewherfe I will quickly make something that will go with the rice

I soak tur dal for an hour and cook it with turmeric powder and salt. I will add finely chopped potatoes and once semi boiled I will add chopped green chillies, onion, bimblies red chili powder, ginger garlic paste. Onc this is cooked I will add chopped paneer and choped coriander leaves And this is then tempered with mustard and curry leaves

A delicious something to eat with rice There is curds and honey that follows.

What's your standby lunch?

Sounds lovely bestwriter. My standby lunch is not a cooked dinner, but salad. I often have some green leaves, e.g. lettuce, with cooked chicken, tomatoes and coleslaw or potato salad. It's tasty quick and convenient.

You must be having all these ingredients stored in the fridge and you just need to put them together That boiled chicken surely must be the main ingredient

Yes, I keep them in the fridge, it is a very quick and convenient meal and hopefully reasonably healthy.

Unfortunately we don't have any standby lunch, electricity is not stable here so we can't rely on our fridge being cold all the time to preserve food.
