Who Does The Shopping?

Postby Spontaneo » 01 Sep 2025, 20:03

Over the years, my roommate and I did the grocery shopping. We would create a list. She would do the driving then sit in her car while I did the shopping. We would go to local dollar stores. We saved alot of money.

Lately, she came up with the idea that traveling to the city to WalMart would be better. Not only have I been giving her gas money over the years and now she wants even more gas money. The cost of groceries has doubled.

I don't want any arguments so I keep my mouth shut.

I do the grocery shopping but I don't go to groceries anymore. I just order online. I live in a farm in the middle of nowhere and going to the downtown will take forever.

I would love to be able to shop for groceries online. The roommate would never agree. :( :(

I also do a lot of online shopping these days, it saves time and travel. Your roommate seems pretty set on her way of doing things, but maybe if she saw how convenient online shopping is, she might change her mind.

You are your own person though. You can do what you want. You're an adult. You can make your own decision.

I understand what you mean, but we both contribute to the grocery money.

With the advent of many online marts, I do most of my shopping from the comfort of my couch. This option is beneficial mainly because it allows me to study other users' reviews, thus making better shopping decisions.

Do your groceries get shipped by US Postal Mail, FedEx, UPS Man, etc.?

You can look at reviews from other people to see if a product is good or not before you buy it. That really helps.

Maybe it doesn't have to stay that way. Perhaps you can make a change and you both buy your own groceries.

Why doesn't she like going to the dollar stores anymore? It seems like that option was working fine already.

Over here we don't really have a specific person who does the shopping, anyone does it whenever they have the time to.

I do make a list of what I would like, but that doesn't mean that I get all that I want/need.

I don't ask for much on the grocery shopping list. As a matter of fact, I gave my roommate my list 2 days early. She honestly liked the list!

Would you like to know my list?

Nescafe instant coffee

gallon iced tea bags

sugar

milk

pepperoni

potatoes

What is your opinion?

A friend went into the city today to go shopping. I asked her to grab a box of Herbal Slimming Tea orange spice. This tea contains senna which makes you go potty.

She dropped off the box and got Bigelow orange spice! The wrong tea!

What was I supposed to tell her? I am a constipated lady!

So, she checked her receipt and sure enough I told her to grab the Herbal Slimming Tea!

Guess what she said? She can grab a box of the Herbal Slimming Tea next week!

She told myself to give away the Bigelow!

If I had my own vehicle, I would do my own shopping!

Eh, sorry but there's no way I'd keep my mouth shut!! She's your roomie, so these things need discussing. If you don't stand up to her, tell her you feel it's unfair, you'll only give her the license to walk all over you. Plus, surely the dollar store is cheaper?? Why drive all that way to a Walmart, spending more petrol AND paying more for your groceries? If I were you, I'd buy my own stuff and let her do her thing. In fact, whenever I've shared house, I've always had this arrangement. It works out way better.

Not my roommate but an acquaintance was supposed to grab the herbal slimming tea. :( :(

Usually my husband does the grocery shopping because I don't drive. I tend to shop online for other things like clothes because I work full time and am pretty busy on weekends at the moment so I don't get out to the shops.

Oh ok. But still, it's the same thing, regardless of whoever it is. People tend to treat us how we allow them to because we kind of give them that license. If you don't stick up for yourself and be assertive, they can really do a number on you. Don't allow them to walk all over you.

During my first marriage I was the main shopper. However, I then got divorced, and met and married my current husband a few years later.
